Went out for a quick blatt this evening whilst my wife went to aqua aerobics... and managed my quickest (solo) ride so far smile

Bearing in mind it was 24C and humid I managed to stay in the big ring the whole way (I have a 53/39 btw) and tried not to stop pedalling the whole way round, although I had to stop for a couple of minutes for a quick drink.

Distance: 13.0 mi
Elevation: + 249 / - 251 ft
Max Grade 15.9 %
Avg. Grade 0.2 %
Total Duration: 00:47:38
Moving Time: 00:44:00
Stopped Time: 00:03:38
Calories: 617
Avg. Watts: 283
Max Speed: 29.7 mph
Avg. Speed: 17.9 mph
Max Cadence: 112 rpm
Min Cadence: 19 rpm
Avg. Cadence: 91.9 rpm
Max Heartrate: 170 bpm
Min Heartrate: 102 bpm
Avg. Heartrate: 156.3 bpm

On the back of my best hill climbing ride last Thursday I finally feel that I am getting somewhere (I joined a gym 5 weeks ago and it has REALLY helped my riding).

Beating a PB is good fun...well done. Try and drink on the move though.

Wish I had a flat ride like that smile Even a quick 16 miles round here involves 900 ft climbing if I take the flattest option possible.

What are you using to measure your power output?
283 watts for > 45 mins is very good. Unless you are >20 stone or on a mountain bike it should yield more than 18mph (assuming that you rode a loop so that you didn't have a head wind the full way)
Im not saying that your ride wasn't fast, just that with that power output I would have expected >20mph.

I had a bit of a bash yesterday, my first post work Richmond trip in a while. I managed an average of 18.1 mph for an hour. Which included getting from the city to Richmond, and almost a full loop.

The best I've done was 19.1 mph average, but on a different bike, and route, when I had been training a lot more.

It sets a level to work off though, which is nice, and I didn't think it was bad considering the traffic etc.

Well done OP, keep up the good work.

Exactly what I was thinking, I have 200ft climb from home to work and that 3/4 of a mile.

You lucky flatlanders!

Anything under 500ft of climbing over 10 miles long can be described as flat I think hehe

I did that 45 mile tt, they described the route as flat...it had 1500 ft of climbing in it! Hardly Norfolk flat!

Not sure where the power value comes from... presumably a guesstimate from the Garmin software based on weight, moving speed, temperature etc... does look a bit optimistic, I agree.

It is a very flat route with mostly left hand corners so it's quite easy to go quickly.
I can drink on the move, but it was so bloody hot I needed a quick breather.

It's not all flat in Dorset, far from it... there aren't any massively long hills, but there are plenty of them between 15-25% if you look hard enough.

Ah, assumed you had a power meter.
