A shame frown The best team in pro cycling IMO: clean, fascinating teamwork and no PR bullst like you get with Sky. No more spectacular HTC trains/lead outs either.

So, Cav to Sky, maybe bringing Renshaw with him? Of course, should that happen, who will rule the Sky roost: Cav vs. Wiggins, Cav vs. Boasson Hagen...?

Or maybe Liquigas? Not much of a showing this year aside from the occasional Basso effort, certainly nothing in the sprints. Cavendish likes Italy and lives there. I suspect they [Liquigas] could do with the results and associated publicity...

Sky is a done deal. Was months ago. The question then becomes how they will ride the Tour. Very difficult, if not impossible, to ride for GC, and the Maillot Vert.

It's an odd sport really. Teams are named after the sponsor and change name whenever the sponsor changes. Some teams like Movistar have been around for over 20 years but have completely different names every few years. They get no money from the gate or TV and rely almost completely on a single sponsor to survive.

I think teams like SKY and Slipstream (Garmin) are trying to create a team fan base like football teams have and make a bit more through merchandise.

Interesting to see what will happen with the other guys and indeed what Sky will choose to do if Cav ends up there (which I'm sure he will) as it just doesn't seem possible to ride for a sprinter and a GC rider. I suppose they have to be honest with themselves and really see if Wiggins is up to it!

The other guys E.B.Hagen looks like he could be a decent rider, and who knows what Thomas might gravitate towards ride wise? Classics?

Re Cav and Sky. I suspect..... Eissel / REnshaw may move with him. EBH will leave. GT arguably should have left.

I remain to see how they balance the conflicting Tour aims.

But I'm sure it wasn't just the EUR3 mio a year that Sky offered that swayed Cav's decision wink

shame, especially as it's one of the few sponsor deals that (for me anyway) actually worked... I'm a lot more conscious of htc products now biggrin

Alledgedly the Sky deal is EUR2.5 - 3 mio per annum + endorsements.

Okgo did. In the main he's right. Although things have improved massively since the formation of the Pro-Tour.

The minimum pay for a pro is less than I earn for christ sake! That's not ideal if you're a pro sportsman in my book.

I agree with the poster above re HTC.

I was aware of their products but never really paid attention; I am now MUCH more aware and if changing, would probably have looked to see what they were made of etc.

Not sure how these guys work out the 'bang for buck' or whatever they know it as but it has certainly worked imo

ANd I do not profess to know enough about pro cycling to comment with conviction but it certainly seemed to be the WHOLE HTC team that won teh Sprints and teh Green Jersey; was awesome display when they did it right - which was most of teh time.

As an aside, it always amazed me why the other sprinters didnt just send out one of their riders to 'get in the way' and get between Cav and some of his team mates? No rules would prohibit this unless done illegally surely?

They do, and often, but if the train is right then its not really possible to do that, and also not many are leading out as fast as HTC so to get someone in front of Renshaw would be tough, and obviously when Cavendish goes nobody will be able to get in front of him unless they are there before he kicks.

It's very difficuly to do at 40mph. You can't just push someone off the wheel. That way lies disqualification.

Never really thought about, heard that Cav was on pretty good money and thought everyone was...

Cav will be one of the best paid in the peloton. Contador probably earns more than him, and Evans' new negotiations will be interesting. Cav is a superstar. If he was Italian we'd all think he was the best thing since sliced bread. I suspect that over the next couple of years he will dispell the remaining doubt that he is the best road sprinter of all time.
