I drive a dark blue 1986 3.2carrera coupe. About 3 years ago a friend of mine bought this car without an engine or g/box. We sourced a good 1985 3.3 turbo engine with all the bits and bobs and rebuilt a late SC 915 G/Box with an LSD, sorted out the engine loom, added a second fuel pump, changed the oil tank, arsed around for a while and then neatly jacked the whole lot into the car. He then sold it (FOOL).
After three years i heard the car was up for grabs again. I had just sold my lancia itegrale i had the money, I bought it.
The car is an animal! I am pretty sure the engine is kicking out a good healthy 300+bhp. The light body with 5 gears, bilstein shocks and a proper suspension set up makes it very rewarding to drive. The brake could do with being upgraded to turbo discs and calipers but i manage for now with good pads, braided hoses and racing fluid. (if anyone has any turbo brake for sale let me know!).
I feel it is time to get some more performance out of the engine. I will re-build with all new gaskets, head studs, guides, rings, chains etc. Though i have built many 911/930 engines i have never gone down the road of building for horsepower.
I would like some advice on cams, turbos, uping boost etc. I am on a budget of about £2000 for now though this will not include the general re-build bits and labour. HOW MUCH POWER CAN I GET FOR £2000?
If anyone can give me some advice or guidance this would be great.

Cheers..........WeeMan

9M or Bob watson really the people to talk to about this, recomendations on a £2k budget will probabably be along the lines of pair of 2nd hand SC cams, 1 bar boost spring, new exhaust & careful set up, should realistically crack the 350bhp level, changing the turbo yes bigger gains- like near to or perhaps crack the 400bhp barrier, but bigger costs too & pos over budget.

Bigger & more efficient intercooler a good idea too with the extra power if you can source one 2nd hand- v pricey as new.

Hows that that old 915 box coping with the power anyway.....

Would not bother with going for old 911 Turbo brakes, yes off the Le-mans 917 yadda yadda yadda & all that waffle but brakes have moved on a long long way in 20 years & now that braking performance is barely good enough for a not hatch. Go for a later & beter set up.

Some *ahem* utterly decent chap is selling some 964RS/Turbo calipers in the Porsche parts classifieds for an entierly reasonable price I might add.....

Hope some of that ramble is useful.

Iguana.

Thanx for the advice. I will wait and hopefully 9M or Bob Watson will reply to my post.

As for the 915 box, it seems to be coping with the power perfectly. First gear is the one i have to worry about i have been told (is this true?). I did re-build it only about 5000 mils ago, so it should have some good life in it yet. I tend to keep those extreme pull-aways to a minimum!!!!!!

I would contact them directly.

I haven't seen 9M post on PH for a while now and Bob Watson never has (to my knowledge), they are probably too busy fixing our busted cars
