So, the online quote for an oil / filter change in my old Volvo is £39.95
book online, roll in, roll out a bit later
The oil from Halfrauds is £7.25 a litre and it needs 6 litres....
No hassle, not a massive job, surely its hard to justify spending the time looking at any other option?

stripped sump plug, over tightened filter.
any sort of under engine tray? Bolts rounded/stripped threads on that.
And then a quote for the new tyres/shocks/wipers/brakes you don't need.
Child seat in the car? "We can't let you take it off our premises, it's dangerous to drive. You wouldn't want your kids in a dangerous car"

You do realise the majority of chain fast fit centres are arrow straight these days thanks to watchdog/trading standards/head office/customer services?stripped sump plug, over tightened filter.

My last 2 oil changes have been in Kwik-Fit.
Cheaper than DIY, done while I wait and very good service. Last time I was in I did have a tyre well worn (but legal) and close to replacement, the chap who did the oil change was almost apologetic in telling me the tyre would need done soon.
I'll be back there again next time I'm due one.
Interestingly National quote me £30.50 for my Mazda 6, pretty hard to beat !

They refused to do one of my cars as the oil light was on. No matter how much I explained the car was fine and had a known fault dodgy level sensor they steadfastly refused to do it. I have used similar service in the past from Nationwide and have also supplied my own oil once or twice.

Yeah exactly, if want your car to have fully synthetic in the correct grade then you'd be best off doing it yourself or taking it to a decent garage. If it's a fairly mundane car or you don't really give a s

Alot of these deals are to get you through the door, once you're there then yes, the hard selling can begin. Not in every case, but in some cases. I've only used such a place once whilst pushed for time. In, oil change then presented with a list and advised that I need to get X, Y and Z done... I declined, several times, eventually got my car back and went on my way. It was silly things, corroded exhaust, pitted rear disc, oil seep at the sump... ie, nothing life threatening but they made it sound like I'd die in a fireball if I drove the car away. I drove the car away.
Fear not, they usually have a 200lt drum of the stuff, that's why it's so cheap, you should really be aking why the dealer is charging so much. Nationwide have done mine, and I've checked, they use the correct 505 PD oil for VW diesels. Usually Castrol semi syth for petrols. Descent filter too. Not worth getting ones hands dirty at those prices.
Just bumping an old thread rather than start a new one.. I've used them once before to do an oil and filter change and had no cause for complaint as it was all done properly and in a timely manner. Last week booked online on Tuesday for another one, same branch, for Saturday AM. Turned up about 11am to be greeted with "you'll be at least an hour". Said I'd booked online last Tuesday "oh, why didn't you say that?". I'd already given him the order number of the online booking.... Still had to wait 1.5 hrs before they got me in then it took them nearly another hour to do it, breaking off to go do other cars every 5 mins. Nearly 3 hours later I'm leaving... All well and good then? Well no. Checked the oil level today as car has been feeling a bit weird since having it done, making some clattery noises from engine when it normally doesn't. Suspected maybe the oil level was low but no, the oil level is nearly 2" above the max marker on the dipstick!! Taking it back tomorrow to have a word and get it sorted. Not happy.
I should've spotted this obvious faux pas when I saw the kid check the dipstick straight after pouring the new oil in, then replace it, start it up, rev it for 10 seconds then switch it off and immediately check the dipstick again, which of course wouldn't have given the oil chance to drain back down into the sump, but not liking people telling me how to do my job I decided to let it pass.
I should've spotted this obvious faux pas when I saw the kid check the dipstick straight after pouring the new oil in, then replace it, start it up, rev it for 10 seconds then switch it off and immediately check the dipstick again, which of course wouldn't have given the oil chance to drain back down into the sump, but not liking people telling me how to do my job I decided to let it pass.
I used NT last March for oil and filter change and MOT on my X5. Total cost was £105 of which the oil and filter were £72. My logic was I couldn't do an oil and filter myself for that and it needed an MOT.
It failed the MOT on a split in the sidewall of 1 front tyre. I went off and put on 2 part worns that I had in the garage and returned and had a pass certificate in 10 minutes.
The whole experience was fine although they did refuse to fit the part worns. The oil they used was Fuchs 5w 30 fully synthetic with is BMW LL04 so no problem there. They used to use Castrol Edge up till about a year ago. I checked the level before leaving and it was dead on and very clean.
It really is a no brainer for something as basic as an oil change.
