the bbc tv series is ace - i loved how the pace was very gentle... not like spooks etc. let's hope they can retain the quite cerebral feel in the film.
127 mins v 315...I doubt it. It'll feel rushed. I would like to be wrong, but some things are best suited to long running telly series, not film. The Russia House felt rushed.

The Russia House felt rushed.
I must admit to feeling the same, but I'll probably see it sometime (not at the cinema though...).The Russia House felt rushed.

Looks excellent with a superb supporting cast. Strong, Hardy and Cumberbatch are all eminently watchable so I'm looking forward to this big time.

Because of this thread I ordered the TV series on DVD.
Just watched the first two episodes. Was hooked after about 10 minutes. Cracking stuff.
There is no way I could have watched something so slow moving when I was younger so no wonder I missed this. However now I am ancient I love the pacing of it.
Things like the Czech border guards keeping the spy waiting in his car, the scene went on for ages the film will have to have a totaly different feel.
I have watched nearly two hours and the story has barley even started the film mush have cut plenty out.
Oh and one more thing, Often when people talk about performances I find they over rate. Not this time Alec Guinness really is a class act.

Saw this on Saturday, I haven't seen the BBC version so can't compare it to that but this was very well made and acted, and if a bit hard work (and I usually like films that are hard work and demand concentration). It recreates the 70's accurately in that everything is grim and grey, I won't post any spoilers but for me it was a bit short on action and tension and I left feeling a bit unsatisfied. There is a nice Citroen DS in it though

Funny you should say that. I have just watched another 2 of the original episodes and i am struggleing. God knows how they kept up when it was first shown I assume there was a week gap between them. Think I will go see the film now. Not to compare but just because its a cracking story.
PS do we ever get t see this wife of his? by the sound of it she has shagged half the circus oh and Jean luke pickard has just turned up.
