What’s happening at Ferrari.. following the disappointment of the 612, How good will the new 420M have to be.. the new generation of cars are raising the game somewhat..

Ford GT 500 BHP 200mph 0-60 in 3.6 seconds 1200kgs

Rumoured Gallardo GT 550 BHP 200mph 0-60 in 3.6 seconds.. 1300kgs
997 GT2 / Turbo variants
Will be pushing close to 500BHP 200 mph 0-60 in mid three seconds (the powerkit versions are close to these stats already)

Vauxhall VXR 220 BHP (yeah more like 280 bhp) 150mph 0-60 in 4.2 seconds.. 900kgs

I heard the Quattropole (spelling !!) engine the other day and it sounded fantastic…. Better than a 360 / 575… it really was deep with a burble and a growl… The build quality was almost S class like…
Handling, it has to be better / match than the Gallardo,
Noise… tweak the Quattropole engine/ exhaust and boy it will sound nice……
Power… if it packs 460 bhp then it will be a contender
Styling.. I hope no way near the 612.. . No one, but no one is talking about it…. What a shame…
Weight, lighter than the 360 so 1270kgs

So called "420" replacement for the 360 will have a more torquey engine and Stradale-style retuned suspension. Visually, more of a facelit Apparently no ceramic brakes though.
Expecting as much as 460hp is optimistic.

575M replacement apparently FAR more exciting:
The 612 Scaglietti apparently has the ULTIMATE centre of gravity, quite LITERALLY, between front seat passengers right in the middle of the car making it handle like a true mid-engined (well it is a mid-engined car). The 575Ms replacement is going to be based on the 612s platform so if they can give it around ~600hp... we might finally have something which can match the Murcielago for excitment.

Various unofficial press reports have stated 450+ bhp, Autocar in March reckoned 470 and the car would top 200mph. Should be pretty special whatever.

The Ford GT has actually got 550 bhp, see here.

www.fordvehicles.com/fordgt/specs.asp

Apparently Ford have been testing in Nardo last few weeks and the test cars (roadgoing) were comfortably hitting 205mph thru the traps.

I dont see the Ford GT as a competitior to the 360 due to the small numbers that will be built (80 coming to Europe I heard).

That being the case you will not be able to get one for love nor money. Well perhaps enough money will get you one but I expect that the second hand price will put it up with the likes of the Murci at least.

I cant understand why Ford dont just make a full production run with them. At just over £100k they will be fantastic value for money compared with the 360 and Gallardo.

From what I have read the Ford sounds like it's pretty much hand build with most of the production outsourced to third parties. Probably not viable for significant volumes. Also sounds like an expensive way of building cars. Makes me wonder if they are actually making money at that price level. It's probably more about the marketing mileage they'll get out of it and the effect on brand image.

They must have a good reason for not putting into full production. Ford could get huge amounts of PR if the GT started to take significant sales away from Ferrari and Lamborghini.

Shame that they decided to give one to Clarkson. Anyone who swaps a 355 for a lardy SL55 needs in my opinion
