Just wondered with the current climate and the media idea of people queuing around the block for getting jobs, is it really that bad. I have always found some sort of job when jobless.

No, it isn't that bad. Some people expect to find a better job than the one that they lost. They seem incapable of understanding WHY they lost their previous job.

Unfortunately, the benefits system allows them to behave like this.

I've always found something when I've been out of work.

I also know people that have been made redundant, and who have two or three jobs on the go while they are looking for 'the big one'.

I think it can be a state of mind.

There are no shortage of opportunities out there. Ones own requirements are often the only barrier, more so than a lack of some competencies. If you want to work you can; if you're flexible about where, doing what and for how much then you'll have no problem. Of course, the more specific you are (often, but not always, for understandable reasons), then you reduce those opportunities. I agree with earlier comments; the biggest barrier can be ones own state of mind. Remove as many of these preconceptions to the labour Market as you can and you can be in work by Monday!
