No really. They wanted an Anglo-Japanese Corporatation sounding name and for some reason looked at the car industry. Changed Leyland to Weyland and had to use Yutani (production designers Japanese neighbour) because Toyota was too obvious.

Other facts include it was Weylan Yutani in the first film, and it found an extra D for the sequel, and even the currency was a conglomerate ("this facility has a substantial dollar-pound ... er something....")
