Twas a good spectacle indeed and seemed to draw a decent crowd. Sadly, no matter what the glossy brochures and hyped up commentary say, it's not and never will be proper match racing. It does seem to draw in a 'wider' crowd though and I'm sure the full size ones for the actual cup will be an awesome sight.
Good to see several of the Brits with seats on the boats too, with Chris Draper putting in a great performance for 'Korea' on Saturday.

A few snaps from Saturday:

The multimedia coverage for the event is pretty impressive too, think there were 5 helicopters up at one stage in the week! (cost is clearly not an issue!)
The You-Tube channels got a great selection if anyone missed it:

There were some mighty impressive "overs" (and unders) on Saturday and Sunday, when those boats go over they seriously go over.

Since its about 5 minutes from work thought I might as well go down.

Didn't have a clue what was going on. Still, the boats look nice.

Good fun for sure.

But not really what the America's Cup should be about in my view.

This is more like it - boat control, tactics, chess on the water

Ive no idea about boats and looking on Wikipedia hasn't helped, so Ayahuasca, what are you saying? I'm genuinely interested.

The further back you go, the better it gets. J Class were like dinghies compared to these:

Reliance vs Shamrock III in the 1903 Americas Cup.

Here is reliance in dry dock:

The Americas Cup has always been the absolute pinnacle of one-on-one match racing.

Match racing is where two boats compete head to head over a relatively short course and is all about precision tactics, intelligence and boat control.

Catamarans are dragster speed machines and don't lend themselves to the control and tactics that match racing demands, in my view.

Problem is, if you win the Americas Cup you pretty much get to set the rules and parameters for the next Cup, bit like say Red Bull winning the F1 championship and then writing the rule book for the next F1, some strange rules would result.

Ah ok that explains it and the bit I was reading about people hating the rules set last time, I'm still not sure how there's no incumbent this time though
