You launch missiles from a jet for a living and want a different job? What is wrong with you!

I'm pretty sure the pilot in the front seat does the launching and Thom here designates the target. Detail. It's all in the detail.

As for wanting a new job, he's probably sick of noisy, smelly, filthy old jets that wee themselves every time they shut down. At least in motorsport you'll still get to wear a gro-bag (of sorts). That should soften the transition.

You could always hang about with the riggers and sootys for a few shifts a week to get up to scratch on the practical hands on stuff, i'm sure they woulndn't mind introducing you to the finer points of wirelocking on a GR4 wink If your at Marham I know the civvie cat 3 guys would let you give them a hand with some structures work if you throw them a pack of choc biscuits. Being from the RAF is deffinatly a huge selling point in engineering, i'm only a lowly technician but I have got a few jobs because of my time spent working for the RAF as a civvie, Harrier wink. Engineering rewards quality rather than age and paper qualifications, your history and current learning should stand you in good stead. You can always bang in some speculative applications and see what happens, Autosport.com and Prodrive.com are always a good place to start! I'm doing an OU course as well and my current employer, only been here a month, told me it was a good indication of self motivation, commitment and drive as you are using your own time to develop yourself. As for motorsport in particular, they seem to love ex RAF people, I know quite a few ex BAe guys who are now working in F1, sports cars and WRC!
