power upgrades

having just read guy's gt2 antics, i'm wondering about power upgrades on my c4s.
is it wise? would such upgrades invalidate warranties? are there nasty side effects to having upgrades.... and what would you advise a maximum power upgrade to? i assume the car could take it seeing as it's basically a turbo bodies car with turbo brakes / wheels etc.
can anyone educate me on this?

As Daz has said, sell it.
the 4s is actually the slowest 911 in production iirc (except maybe the 4s Cab)
due to all the extra weight of the Turbo Look, and 4wd, without the extra power to compensate.
with 996tts becoming 'cheap' now, Its defo the way I would head If I wanted performance gains..
So long as you dont mind losing your Cup Holders, Glovebox, Updated OBC and 24hr clock

It is a different block without the full dry sump system, they don't take kindly to too much tuning.
You can do the re-map, filters, cats etc..but this may give 10% bhp increase after spending quite a bit of money.
Just look at the price of the X51 upgrade Porsche do on this engine to see it is not exactly cost effective.

One of the all-time sweetest Porsche I've ever enjoyed was a C4S with the very expensive Porsche power upgrade kit and sport exhaust. What was that- still only 345 bhp against the Turbos 400+? But it was beautifully mannered and very sharp, maybe not 'supercar' fast until the going was tight.
AS the others are pointing out, would you be better off chopping yours in for a Turbo already prepared?

I'm with the others on this, buy a Turbo.
But I don't know about mods., if you read the Auto-cars review on the 997 it has an all new gearbox because the relatively small increase in torque output from the new car has exceeded the safe limit for the 996'S box. Even the uprated Turbo gear box is near it's limit.
X-50 upgrades like Dazrens car come with a strengthened gear box which is part of the large increase in price for only 30 horses extra. I would only go down the mod route with some one like RUF (alla GUYR) who will GUARANTEE the engine & gear box,
but this does NOT come cheap. Best of luck.
