I hit *53mph once, according to a Cateye cycle computer. I was riding a 'standard' chainset, on a steel bike, lots younger than I currently am, and putting in every ounce of effort I could muster. It was, to be fair, quite terrifying. Every joint in the tarmac surface felt like a massive pothole, and I lost a wheel reflector from one 'hit'. It shot up between my arms, and whizzed off into the undergrowth. I thought it might have been something slightly more important, so I slowed down very quickly after that, and stopped to inspect the bike.

I tried again, several times, to beat that speed, but never managed it. Once I had to abort when a car turned out onto the hill ahead of me, and failed to 'get a move on'. At that point, I realised that such speeds were too risky. More recently, I've moved back to the same area, but on a lighter, aluminium framed 'compact' I can't get much above 45mph, according to my Garmin. That's completely 'spun out' too, and when you truly spin out, there isn't much control or stability left. At my time of life, whilst I still enjoy speed, I'm also happy to sacrifice some of that speed to remain in control of the bike.

(*Indicated maximum speed as displayed and recorded on a properly set-up wired Cateye. I make no claims regarding actual accuracy of the unit at the time, I'm just repeating the figure recorded at the end of the ride.)

Mate just recorded 59.9mph at foot of Col du Sabot ... way out by a about 20. Another mate got KOM on a bit of Alpe D'Huez! Strava somehow took his downhill speed and applied it uphill! wtf? More reasons I'm happy to be data free.

Whenever I've hit high speeds I have not been pedaling...Find a long enough hill and you don't need to pedal at all (or step enough).

I went down Britwell Hill again yesterday, saw 55.6 mph on the Garmin but Strava reports a max of 53.2 mph.

According to Strava the hill is -9% and drops 270ft in 1/2 a mile, trick is to go into the top of it as fast as possible then tuck for the sharp part of the descent. Although you can never be totally 'safe' at those sorts of speed the hill is dead straight through the middle of corn fields and does not have any turnings, only thing you would have to contend with is a sharp sidewind and animal running out in front of you.....

I have to admit, I prefer going up it than down it!!

Not overly surprising, but still slightly disappointing! Would have been my highest top speed by a particularly unrealistic 18 or 20mph. Likely I was doing around 35 I'd have guessed. Still got a screenshot of it and I will never admit defeat to my friend who is a much better cyclist.

If Strava throws up a big max speed than have a look at the line graph thingy that shows speed and it won't normally show you at anywhere near, very odd.

First KOM today, hurrah!!!
Never thought I'd get one bar a two man segment but attacked a short segment on my way to work this morning, took 5 Seconds off my time and went top by a clear 3 seconds!

I cycle lots but I'm no hardcore expert and ride a £200 used rally so happy with that!

It's only a short segment and only been ridden by 300 odd different people but still well happy.

The previous occupiers were 4 on the same time so I'm sure I'll be off the top pretty quick!

Anyone having issues uploading to Strava this evening?

I keep getting 'error processing activity' messages from Strava, but the same file/ride uploaded fine to Garmin connect. I have tried exporting the file from Garmin Connect and manually uploading it to Strava but am still getting the same error message - wondered if anyone else is having the same issue?

Anyone recently used Strava in the USA (or abroad in general?)
Used it fine with data roaming turned off last week, but this week it doesn't seem to be accurate at all.
Wayward GPS tracks + not uploading properly using Wifi.
I'm doing the same routes as last week, which worked fine.

If you log onto the main website you'll probably find they're doing maintenance.

It wasn't at the time.....

Now it uploads it after about 5 mins, then the ride does not appear in the dashboard - try to upload it again and Strava thinks you have already uploaded it so won't let you............ grrrrrr

SitRep as at 0941hrs...

Strava said:
"Activity uploading is currently experiencing delays. Uploads in progress will complete once site maintenance is finished."
...although it wasn't saying that last night, when I (successfully) uploaded a ride sometime around 2200hrs.

We are experiencing some site issues which we hope to resolve as soon as possible. We apologize for any problems that you may be experiencing and appreciate your patience while we get back up to speed. If you have submitted a ticket regarding any of these issues you may want to check back to see if your issue has resolved itself.

Issues you may be experiencing that should resolve themselves with the next 12-24 hours:

- Activities stuck uploading
- Activities not deleting - these will eventually delete
- Activities not changing type - these also will eventually change
- Activities not receiving elevation
- Activities not receiving calorie or power data

Thanks again,

Strava Support Team

Typical it breaks when I am reasonably confident of a new PB on my ride to work. The suspense is killing me.
