Also with the Brietling I know a number who have them and was talking to an old school friend the other night just happened to mention watches and I said you know what I find very odd is everyone I know with the Brietling watch will always tell everyone what it is worth??? I mean why - and then he perked up stating that he had noticed exactly the same how very odd. Might just be an unusual minority however it's not something Id be shouting about.

A classy watch should be just that sublime and a nice addition to your wrist. Those who know will realise what it is others of they see the watch will probably think that's a nice looking watch. Why oh why would you need to brag about it?

Another friend I happen to know has a £20k Rolex. He never talks about it but wears it all the time that's class.
Not bad for a shop bought sauce I suppose, but homemade is generally superior ... wink

I know some like them, but show me a Breitling and it will have emerged from a black or white RRS with a private plate. TOWIE on a wrist. The one brand that epitomises everything that I would abhor in watch design. Only my opinion obviously.
Nope, no RRS here, never have, never will. No tattoos either.

Can I think of anyone I know who owns a Breitling and a RRS, um, no.

Stef

P.S What's an RRS?

J/K
Range Rover Sport.

Interestingly, I have two Breitlings and no RRS. In fact, the garage consists of a Mondeo, a Fabia and a Griffith.

ETA - What's a TOWIE?
Oops only me then, currently a matte black RRS and a blue TVR Cerbera!

Definitely NOT the towie type but just like those things... Sorry if it offends!!

Back to the topic loving my Breitling for Bentley Motors T, violet dial, machine turned bentley dash style bezel and alligator strap with deployment. Ocean Racer rubber strap to come for Xmas wink

Collected today from Bond Street after overhaul... All I can say is WOW great service from the team, they even sized all my rubber straps and the watch is seriously like new! Was given some lovely token gestures after some mix ups but they've fully won me back. At £495 its pricey but on this occasion well worth it... RECOMMEND as the watch is like new!

Not a fan. I don't really understand what they are supposed to be. They are positioned and marketed as tool/instrument watches to some degree, but given the overcomplicated, gaudy, and blingy aesthetics, they really aren't that. I know the quality is decent, but I'd be embarassed to own one.

Interestingly, everyone seems to delight in telling me that mine has an ETA movement.
What's ever worth it?? It's only ever the emotion it brings! To me my Breitling was well worth it as I feel it looks great, does as it should and to me is a celebration of hadwork and things that may make me buzz. If a Casio or any other watch or item brings that feeling to a person then yep it's worth it. Are Breitling better than Rolex or any other brand?.. To many NO but to me YES, that's why people say it's the best ever (because it brings them every happiness) and they assume it will make others feel the same! Not always the case so find what makes you tick! My opinion?

I am not a fan of the big/blingy breitlings but I have a chronospace (the original 90's one) and I love it. No RRS here either.

I sold my Navitimer Red Arrows and bought a Spitfire Chrono a few years back. Worn it every day, never had to reset the time between time changes, and never looked back. If I was interested enough I'd have a Heritage just for the lovely bracelet.

I have a 1967 navitimer (which is ahem..also for sale). You can see from here how the design got bigger and brasher over the years but basically stayed quite similar.

I have a 17 year old Colt that still keeps perfect time. The face doesn't have a single blemish although the bracelet has seen better days but still claps etc perfectly. A solid piece of kit, if you ask me.

But for some reason, I've never been tempted to go back.

Has anyone mentioned that Breitling went bust in 1979 and disappeared completely?

Their name was bought (only the rights - the uncompleted stock went to O&W) by Sicura and resurrected. Breitling watches are really Sicura watches, have nothing to do with the Breitling family and have as authentic a history as Panerai...

A 'real' Breitling: hehe

Sorry, but that's spin.

Sure Sicura bought Breitling, but it's like saying a TAG Heuer Monaco has nothing to do with a Heuer Monaco.

Clearly there's a lot of heritage in the Navitimer range. Only the myopic would fail to see the consistency in the designs from the earliest to the current.

Businesses are always bought and sold, it's the nature of business!

Also, it's not as if Breitling were the only one to fold. Many other names came very close. The SSIH Group that owned Omega was bailed out by the banks in 1981. It was restructured and merged with ASAUG (which was also on the point of going tits up) in 1983. ASAUG owned a whole bunch of firms that made the bulk of the ebauches used by the Swiss watch industry, as well as the Longines Certina and Rado brands. The combined SSIH/ASAUG group would later be bought out by what would in time become the Swatch Group. So, singling out Breitling for criticism is a bit unfair.

It's all down to personal preference. I love watches and I admire most of the offereings from Breitling. They just look lovely. My brother in law has just purchased a rather fetching Breitling Bentley and I'm very envious. I tried on a beautiful chronomat 44 flying fish with grey face in the States and was so tempted to offload my entire holiday spending on that one item. The other half said no. How selfish.

Personally I'm not a huge Omega or Rolex fan. They make good watches but most of their designs leave me cold (there are some exceptions) but you'll find plenty on here who adore thiers. All fair enough.

Not known as Shitebling for nothing. On the other hand, some of the older "real" Breitling stuff can be appealing and is relatively cheap.

Not known as Shitebling at all... Not West of Billericay anyway...

The Bentleys are a bit OTT and some of the other current models aren't exactly subtle, but a Transocean or Superocean Heritage is FAR from bling.

Of course, no other Watch maker makes any watches that are anything other than totally subtle... rolleyes
