Hi all - advice needed please.
I have applied to a company for a job that is very interesting. I have been given an interview, which I think went quite well.I have been told that I will be informed if I was successful within 4 wks of interview date.

I am still searching for jobs and have noticed some other positions within the same company that also sound very interesting and match my skill set well. Should I apply for these?

It could work in one of two ways:

1) Show that I am not serious about the position I was interviewed for. or,
2) Show that I am serious about getting a job at that company.

What do you suggest?

Write a letter to said company stating if unsuccessful you'd be grateful to be considered for other positions that they feel you would be suitable for.

I'd be inclined to wait if you have a date by which you will be told. Then once you know for sure then you can, with conviction, make your next move. If you don't have a date, ask for one!

If the organisation is joined up, they should already be thinking, if you haven't been successful for the role you have applied for, if you would be suitable for other roles. Not guaranteed of course, so be prepared to apply again having reflected upon any feedback given if indeed your are unsuccessful. Good luck!

It is not a done deal until the contract is signed (even then there are some horror stories)...........i.e do not stop applying.

Also make sure the organisation is aware that you have seen other suitable roles within their business and you really want to join them (in any capacity?). Do not assume that there is joined up thinking within the business and that they are automatically considering you for all roles.

Do not ASS-u-ME. wink

Keep applying.

This shows the company you are serious about working for them and are looking for opportunities with them, and are keeping an eye on their vacancies. Apply once and you may not be that keen.

Also big firms have vast HR departments. So the chance of one person dealing with everything is minimal, especially since HR actually does a hell of a lot more than recruitment, which is why they rely on executive search firms and headhunters, especially good ones.

If the vacancies are at the same time definitely apply for several. If over several months, your CV can become immediately binnable - but that is a risk worth taking if you are a decent candidate.

If the firm does what you do, you have a much better chance than if applying for a random sector with the same role. If changing role and sector, you'd best have a very good CV and most recruitment firms or headhunters will run a mile as soon as you mention "I'd be interested in changing sectors." Ditto if you have more than 2 jobs in the last 5 years.
