I'm having a look at the RTP route into teaching and was wondering if anyone can shed some light on it and any tips on how to get accepted and find a provider.

I'm attracted to it as it'll let me finish my degree whilst working and earning. Info seems a bit thin on the ground and the TDA didn't know anything about it when I rang them.

Ta muchly.

You want to spend your days with other people's offspring rather than baking cakes?

Yes, it appears I've completely lost my marbles.

RTP? Do you mean GTP (Graduate Training Program)?

My wife did the GTP a few years ago and while hard work, and dedication was required. It was a very godo wya of getting the qualification.

The best thing we found was that it was an excellent way of getting a job after the training, as you are alreayd embedded into a school. Some teachers really struggle to get their first placement if coming straight out of full time uni, rather than full time teaching.

Also you get roughly 15k for doing it.

The biggest factor to it however is the subject you will be teaching. My wife did English, which is very hard work in terms of volume of reading and marking, compared to something like Maths which is a simple 'right or wrong' type of marking. You dont write many essays in maths, or science or PE!

RTP blends paid employment in schools with academic study to reach QTS. More from the TDA here: http://www.tda.gov.uk/about/~/link.aspx?_id=720F87...

If you still have questions, pop in to your local secondary and ask to see the Deputy Head for a chat; I'm sure they'd spare a few minutes to answer your queries. Make a good impression and you never know! Good luck!
