With the imminent arrival of my Panasonic plasma bounce my mum has decided she also wants a better TV, but she wants something "made in Britain". Do we have any choices? This would ideally be a basic 32 inch set but we can be very flexible on spec.

I think there used to be factories in Wales that turned out plasma panels and which are now closed down but maybe they still exist.

I install a lot of TVs and I have not seen one 'made in UK' for years. Many used to be, Panasonic, Mitsubishi, Sony etc etc. They appear to have shut their plants and moved them to Eastern Europe, looking at the labels on the back of the TVs I fit.

Sad, but that's the way of the World now.

She wants a TV that blows up 2 days out of warranty, and won't work on cold damp mornings?

I remember having a university visit to the Mistubishi TV factory at Haddington east of Edinburgh in the mid 1990s. It is now a 'commerce park'. Though the bus stop is still known as the MItsubishi bus stop.

I built a TV factory in Cardiff in 96, and was watching a programme on monster demolitions last year only to see the factory I had built being demolished (was for CRT though)...

We want high wages and cheap TV's in the UK, so they're never going to be manufactured here any more.

I don't agree, can't imagine a lot of labour is required with the making of these things.
