Gents (presumably....)

Two issues:

I have an 07 Conti GT

1. Every now and then "check brake lights" flashes up on my warning screen. Weeks can pass before it happens again. I check the brake lights and they are all always working properly. Any thoughts?

2. Is it worth me buying a "VAS 5054A VW Audi Bentley and Lamborghini Multi-language diagnostic tool"? You can see it at

If the budget is there, get a Ross Tech Vag-Com lead and software, then drop me a line as there is a plug in for the Bentley . . . . .if your near Chester, or happen to go to the PH Bentley meet next month, I'd be happy to reset the codes for you.

Many thanks for your swift response.

I saw the product you mentioned on the net. Is it really safe for a complete novice (me)to experiment with this kind of thing, or is it best left to experts?

If I go plugging things in now, might that negate the extended warranty I have?

Also, I saw a thread about a meet - but wasn't sure if a location had finally been decided. Would be happy to pitch up if its within reasonable striking distance from Bucks.

Hi Kp,

As with everything there are risks, but the scope for major cockups is very narrow as many of the higher functions are protected with access codes . . . . . As long as you proceed with caution and read the manual, it's a painless procedure and one that you would need to do, irrespective of the hardware / software platform (all VAG-COM will give you, is an increased number of options and settings that your could tweak, the reset button is on the main screen)

Meeting is in Crewe, so a couple of hours up the M40/42/6

I dont know about this one but I bought a very similar one with a different dongle. It would only read the global codes and nothing more.

I've now got the ross tech one as somoene else has suggested and its miles better.

..The message 'check brake lights' I would suspect the high level stop light faulty. They are prone to getting damp in the connections.

its also a right pain to replace.

VAS is a bit tricky to use, but more than user friendly when it comes to reading and deleting faults.

As BR said, the high level brake light is prone to damage, although i'd the passenger rear cluster properly as the seal wits differently on that side.
