Hi just a quick question. The other half works in a gym and some shifts she covers reception. They have recently been told that they are no longer entitled to breaks even a toilet break.
She is no expected to be at the desk for 6 1/2 hours with no break.
The duty manager used to cover breaks but the company is cxxx they have cut staff so much the duty managers have been told not to cover breaks.
Sorry its a bit rambling but whats the legal position on this.
I thought you were entitled to a break but i dont know what the time scale is.
thanks

Using the toilet is not a break, excessive use may be an issue but an employer cant refuse that you use the toilet

AFAIK you have the right to a break on a 6 hour shift or more as an adult (over 18).

Time for the staff to have a collective word with the senior manager to discuss staff morale, how to get the best from staff, treating staff as responsible adults and how best the staff can contribute to the longterm prosperity of the business?
