HD Streaming versus BluRay

Apologies if this has been done to death but I'm looking to renew our main TV setup and want to know what the consensus is on Blu Ray in comparison to the various HD streaming options (e.g. Netflix).

I don't have a Blu Ray player and will be looking to buy a 'smart', network connected TV so now wondering if it's worth getting the player or whether I just use Netflix etc. If so, is the quality as good and will my broadband be able to handle it? Anyone with experience?
