Hello, I,ve just bought an 07 gallardo spyder in grey with black wheels and orange callipers!!! and haven,t been this excited about buying a car in years, this is a big moment for me!! Anyway, agreed the deal on Saturday and will be picking the car up early next week. I,m just starting to calm down a bit and the reality of owning this car is starting to sink in, Having owned Porsches for the last ten years I feel I've built up a good knowledge of porsches in general and therefore feel very comfortable with the marque and all the usual problems, however I really have bought this car with my man bits, it was the orange calipers again'st the grey that really got me, infact, no it was the whole thing. Sorry I'm rambling, I'm really after any advice you can offer on anything from servicing, usual problems, anything I shouldn't do and just any advice you have gained from Lamborghini ownership.

Any advice will be most appreciated, thank you in advance,

Anthony.

P.S. I really cannot believe the effect that buying this car has had on me, feel like I'm 17 again ( I'm 38 by the way )

Lol sounds similar to me when I got my grey spyder with black wheels back in the spring. They are without a doubt amazing cars and I still get the same sense of occasion everytime I drive her even after nearly 5000 miles! The obvious first question is how worn is the clutch as this is still an expensive job apart from that in my ownership apart from topping up the oil every 1k miles or so and checking tyre pressures not had 1 issue, they are just great cars especially since 2006, enjoy it, simple

That's what Lamborghinis do, they make you wet in all the right places. My only advice is don't be shy with the pictures, it's all they'll ask for on here. hehe

Congratulations!

Egear?

If so do the right things to maximise clutch life... What is the clutch reading right now?

Also check oil regularly, these do use oil and you should top it up regularly.

Other than this, service it once a year and enjoy!

only been an owner a short while myself.... but i would say buy a fault code reader off ebay, and read a couple of threads that have recently discussed engine fault lights...... very helpful threads....

yes, egear.... someone needs to start a thread on hints and tips... only one i have picked up is select neutral proper in traffic, don;t just sit on the brake pedal in gear.... though not sure if for 08my+ cars this selects neutral as it says in the manual....and use gears/engine to help you brake in normal driving.

Had my 2005 for over 2 years now and done 21,000 miles, the most useful thing I have learnt is not to worry if you get an orange light. My car has been the most reliable car I have ever owned.

+1

Re E-Gear - if you read around the forums most people suggest driving around in 'Sport' as it saves the clutch (makes sense in theory but in a reality I don't know...). Ensure you warm the car up before moving off, the car will idle higher when first started and trying to move off before revs have settled will make for a jerky ride. The car will automatically select neutral if stationary for a while (it will beep to tell you). Switch off whilst in gear but remember to start in neutral! wink Avoid Auto mode, it will find the most impossibly inappropriate moment to change gear - like mid-corner! rolleyes

Launch control is fun - I managed it purely by chance on one occasion - as I understand it you need to put the car into 1st, turn off stability control, engage sport mode, exert no pressure on either pedal and then stamp on the gas.

And I know exactly how you feel right now - I bought my SL in June and felt like a child (albeit a thirty year old one) at Christmas! Enjoy! biggrin

Egear tips from me:

- When slowing down don't shift to 1st or let it shift you down into 1st, better to select N from 2nd if you know you are slowing to a hault.

- Pull away positively rather than half-heartedly, less prolonged slip of clutch.

- Don't reverse on full lock, or reverse up hills, or both combined when maneuvering, clutch and car hate that!

- Leave it in sports mode all the time, meant to be less slip again.

Finally in general try to avoid traffic, hill starts or anything where you are going to be stop start or hard/jerky on the clutch.

When I owned a Gallardo I changed the cluthc before selling at 12k miles, and the reason was my parking required me to reverse up a slope on full lock, the car hated this and so did the clutch!

If you can follow the above then you should get the most out of the clutch.

Most importantly enjoy!

Big congrats and superb taste may I say wink ....as has been said check the oil on a regular basis, always keep a litre in your bonnet ,and post some pickup when you get it,also if you are coming from a Porsche ..prepare to be treated very differently by other road users...you will be let out almost immediately into traffic from a side road, and keep your roof up when driving through city centres or you will get loads of people running up to you going 'nice car mate ...rev her up for me'

Manual says so (IIRC). Not sure if it's a safety thing (for when on hills etc) or something to do with the e-gear system.

Totally agree - reading somewhere else there were theories you could only do this a few times before causing catastrophic damage to the clutch (and probably a few other parts too)!

Congrats! As you are based in Lancs you should come and join us for a run out or two, we can introduce you to a few local Lambo owners too if you want to chew their ear off! Just email athorby@hotmail.com if you have the urge to show off your car smile

Pretty sure it will select N if standing for a while without your foot on the brake pedal.

If you are keeping your foot on the brake while standing still it won't change to N.

Yeah, just when i thought i had the egear "make sure you have your foot on the brake pedal"otherwise you won`t be able to select 1st, thing sussed,it then pops it into neutral for me.

I kept an eye on it to see what was going on and yeah if your in 1st foot off the brake it dumps it into neutral after about 13 seconds.
And yeah it does bleep when it selects n ,but my car bleeps constantly cos of nav track, lazer thingy,
park sensors ,etc, then theres all the car bleepy things.
More bleeps than a BBC outtake.

Great egear info in this thread, even if the op comes back and says his is a 6 speed manual biggrin
Op good for you ,you will love it ,enjoy.

It was the viscosIty not the brands that were the issue.i had a ton of Mobil 1 in my garage from my previous cars all using it, which i think was 5w but I was told I could use it,but best to stick to the castrol edge that was in it which is 0w.
