If the output of apple tv is 1280x 720, how can apple claim you can rent HD movies?

Is 720 HD?

I thought it needed to be 1080 to be HD?

720p is considered HD, (it is certainly better than 1080i), however the next apple TV will do 1080p according to recent peeks into the software.

When you set the resolution to 1080p, it makes the interface 1080p and not the chosen film. I've installed a Broadcom HD Crystal card in mine so I can watch ripped Blu Rays in 1080p.

Great username? Seriously? Where do they teach you to talk like this? In some Panama City "Sailor wanna hump-hump" bar, or is it getaway day and your last shot at his whiskey? Sell crazy someplace else, we're all stocked up here

It's really not that bizarre. The penny will drop at some point.

Well, John, as you ask so politely, I think of a man, and take away reason and accountability!
(You also win a prize, by the way. An all expense paid road trip to Baltimore in a quite nice Saab.)

It's only the first generation white and silver AppleTV that can take the CrystalHD card. The little black AppleTV2 can play 1080p content fine if it's Jailbroken and running something like XBMC.
