The old adhesive on the badge on the back of my car has obviously seen better days, as I managed to accidentally pull it off while I was washing it last week. I'm left with some crusty but solid old glue on the car, and a badge made out of what looks like cheap metal that may have been plated or painted.

What's the best glue for sticking badges back on, i.e. painted metal to plated metal?

Also, what cleaning needs to be done to the surface under the badge that's going to face up to the glue? It's obviously in need of cleaning, but I'm guessing I shouldn't be polishing it ...

Thanks in advance!

You can get badge tape from most motor factors for a couple of pounds. We use double sided foam tape thats only a few mm thick. Just stick it to the badge and trim round the badge with a blade.

To get the old glue off I use a panel wipe, the solvent dissolves the glue.

I see what you did there, but those Badges aren't stuck together.
