08 cooper s clubman
Discussion
Me and the wife have been looking at new cars. We have finally settled on a 2008 clubman s after looking at loads of other options. Is there any common problems with them e.g. Engine, gearbox etc or are they pretty bullet proof. I will be buying from a mini dealer so will have a years warranty.
Thanks

Hi AdsVX
I presume from your username you also have a vx220? I used to own one (about 8 years ago now!). Do miss it still.
Back on subject....
I own a Mini Cooper S Clubman. The only real problem I have heard of is the 'death rattle'. It is well documented and makes the car sound like a diesel on start up. Mine had this to begin with and to be honest it sounds like just an annoyance rather than anything serious (after reading much on the 'net) - but there are a few instances of the engine failing. A new timing chain (or was it belt??) tensioner will solve the noise and hopefully prevent failure.
Otherwise the car is great. I have found the torque steer a little 'challenging' compared to my 2004 Cooper S which felt a little better balanced. But the extra space, refinement and decent mpg are good. I even managed to get 51mpg on a 60mph commute through the M42 cameras a while back. Typically get 42- 44mpg on the motorway and get 37mpg on the country roads on the Isle of Wight.
Only problem is my wifes Alfa is off the road and she is now enjoying driving it......
