The stupid grill on the wings of the this and the FT86 seems at odds with the simplicity of the design. Prefer the rear of this, but the front of the Toyota.

The worse thing is that ALWAYS the concept looks great with ALL the great kit on wink but when the based model gets here it will be dull as dishwater biggrin IMHO

Line-up

Initially, as world-wide demand is extremely high, we will bring in one variant of BRZ, the highest spec available (shown on the Allocation system as 'high spec'). This is the vehicle you saw at Coleshill. The main features are as follows:

•17" alloy wheels
•Torque sensing rear LSD
•Subaru VDC
•ABS
•Front, side, curtain and knee airbags
•Cruise control
•Dual-zone automatic air-con
•Radio CD player with 6 speakers
•USB & iPod connector
•HID headlamps
•Front fog lamps
•LED Daytime Running Lamps
•Body coloured, electric folding, heated door mirrors
•Leather seats
•Heated front seats
•Keyless entry with Push Button Start
•Leather steering wheel & gear knob

Later in the year we will introduce a second derivative without the heated leather seats (shown on the Allocation system as 'mid spec')

Following that, a further 'stripped out' derivative aimed at those customers who wish to tune and fettle the BRZ to their own specification will be made available (shown on the Allocation system as 'low spec').

As yet, naming conventions have not been decided hence, referring to the three models and high, mid and low spec.

Technical

Subaru have done everything they can to keep the weight and centre of gravity of the vehicle as low as possible. As we know, reducing body-roll is one of the key tenets of Subaru's engineering philosophy, as less body roll equates to greater stability and grip. As a result, the BRZ is an incredibly compact package: it is the world's smallest RWD 2+2 coupe (4,240mm x 1,775mm x 1,425mm) and has the lowest centre of gravity of almost any vehicle on the road: 460mm. This means more than half the mass of the car is below knee-height.

The BRZ features a 2.0litre FA Boxer engine with Direct Injection technology that produces 200ps and 205Nm of torque in a body that weighs just 1,220kg, that's a power to weight ratio of 164ps/tonne.

This all adds up to a driver focussed car intent on delivering the most engaging driving experience possible.

It will be available with 6 speed short-shift manual and paddle operated automatic gearboxes.

Colours

The BRZ will initially be available in two colours: Sterling Silver Metallic and WR Blue Mica. The latter being exclusive to Subaru. Later in the year as additional production becomes available we will also add four more colours: Satin White, Crystal Black Silica, Dark Grey Metallic & San Remo Red . As per the rest of the range, the special paint finishes will attract an additional charge.

Its almost like an elise but without the sills and loads of headroom:

What does he mean about the weight transfer being aggressive, slow corners like kindergarten and heaviness of the gearbox?

Techo BS speak!!!!

The low/mid/top spec now seem to have names wink

Top spec = Type S
Mid spec = Type R
Low spec = Type RA

here is some sales figures from Japan IIRC

Subaru sold 3551 BRZ in 2 month which is about 4 times more than Subaru Japan's purposed. Type S = 78.4%
Type R = 18.5%
Type RA = 3.1%

There are two choices of Gearbox
6M/T = 66.3%
E-6A/T = 33.7% is . Under 29 (age) is 27.5%, 30-39 is 27.9%, 40-49 is 23.3%, 50-59 is 13.8% and 60 and higher is 7.5%.

So how does it look in the tin from the perspective of a potential punter?

It looks okay. The inside does not look that bad either. But I can't get past my mental block of 'it's a Scooby, so it needs a blower'... Having said that, a two seater sports car like this is probably better suited to an N/A engine (but then with my recent purchase I would say that) wink

I know what you are saying, I am struggling with the idea of a perfomance Subaru without forced induction?????

I don't think there are any plans to bring out an FI version of this is due to the fact there is nowhere to put a hairdryer, apparently.

250bhp is pretty respectable from a 2.0ltr N/A lump but 300-350 from an FI would be even better.

I reckon this car will take a small turbo underneath as part of the exhaust system placed under the floor, maybe bolted to the back of the engine or somewhere around the gearbox rather than under the bonnet in the usual place, then couple that to a water/air charge cooler somewhere underneath as well.

I think an aftermarket kit for this won't be long.

I was told the 200bhp version is easy to get to 250bhp but the 300 bhp STi is out next spring, I'll probably wait wink

Cosworth all ready looked at low comp pistons and supercharger IIRC but big bucks.

Back seats are piontless.

Brakes look just about adequate for the weight on the road wink

Boot was pretty good for the class, wish I had same hinges on my 2011 saloon

Interior fine

Flappy paddle G/Box is full auto and no clutch
