Hi guys! Well i've been quite busy the last couple of weeks and here is some evidence of the fruits of my labour. After buying a couple of ex Tuscan racing 16' OZ rims i commenced with a refurb. Now before i start i am a complete novice at this and i don't mind telling you it was with some trepidation and doubt that i started this project.

I have decided to post a 'start to finish' account of my efforts as i felt there were quite a few owners out there that were considering undertaking the same thing and i wanted to give some idea of the difficulties and methods i encountered.

So here goes. I've posted a link to an album with pictures and description on what i have done and how i have acheived it. I apologise in advance as some of what i say will be teaching some of you to suck eggs but please go easy on me as i am a complete beginner with this!

Click onto page two then click on each picture to see it in full with a description at the bottom of what it shows. Start at the 'end' then work forward, if that makes sense.

I hope you all approve of the results.

Been working hard there Jimbo - much more elbow grease gone into that job than the pictures convay I bet.
Looking pretty good IMHO

I take it that the final picture was taken indoors with the house lights on hence giving that all over "gold" appearance?

I have taken the liberty of adjusting the white balance to take that colour cast out - I apologise if I have got this all wrong but does the wheel actually look more like this?

Either way a superb job and look forward to seeing them on the 450 soon

That looks really good, it gives me the confidence to have a go myself over the winter.

Where did you get the bolts from?

Hi Steve,

I've added a couple more photos this morning in the daylight outside. The ruddy flash on the camera gives the indoor pics that hue.

The materials i used are all shown now in the added pictures, with explanations attached below each photo.

Zig i used the drill mainly. The dremel is ok for fiddly bits but not really powerful enough.

I got all my bolts, nuts and rim sealer from Pertsch & Partner in Germany.

Great service and very quick despatch.

Hi Adam, i got the decals from Andy Tank as i bought the two Tuscan rims off him. I think there are some about on ebay but check the size. One of the wheels still had decals on it. They were a little smaller than the ones i've put on.

Thanks for the compliments fellas.

I don't think i mentioned the paint for the hubs. I have used Hammerite satin black smooth finish. It seems very good at filling in and disguising surface imperfections that have been missed during the preparation stage.

Also i have applied one run of rim sealer into the crack where the two faces meet. I ran a finger along it to ensure the join is filled and sealed thoroughly. I will let it dry over 24 hrs then apply another bead of sealer over the first. I'm just waiting for new valves to arrive then i will get tyres fitted which arrived today.

Hi Jim,

did you replace all the rims or refurb them?

What about the transfers - are they laquered over afterwards to keep them on?

Adam - those transfers are the big ones for 16" wheels - plenty in the raffle at last years BBWF ;^)

Good job on those. What length of bolt did you go for out of interest and did you use new nuts too?

Head diameter 14m, thread length 24mm. New nuts as well. Thread lock on each nut whilst re-assembling.
