I had a string of these when I was a lad. I sold my last one some, gulp, 13 years ago and I still think about it every day.

For a long time it was an itch I couldn't scratch but then it wasn't. Yesterday I spent 5 hours and £900 going to get this little beasty:

It has got more problems than the b*stard child of Oliver Reed and Marilyn Monroe, and these problems are likely to cost more than the price of the car to put right, but I absolutely love it.

Small list of things to get started on:

Rev counter f*cked
Dashboard lights f*cked
Fuel pump noisy and most probably f*cked
Fan not kicking in so either fuse or temp sender f*cked
Radio f*cked
Key won't turn in lock, only central locking on key fob and only have one key. Most likely will leave me f*cked
It smokes like a b*tch when you boot it. Valve guides most likely f*cked
Harsh choppy ride on Koni adjustable shocks. I suppose they're most likely f*cked

Anyway, I am sitting in work now and all I can think about is driving it. Roll on next Sunday's Yorkshire Snotter Sh*tbox Run smile

Lovely car mate! I got a tornado red mk2 golf gti - got a thread on here somewhere!

Great cars and still a good head turner despite the age!

Love the colour on yours too! Is it Helious Blue?

Cheers chaps.

The colour is VW 'Bright Blue' in some countries and 'Royal Blue Metallic' in others. I'd never seen one in it before, it is growing on me after owning four other GTis in the 90's, all of them Tornado Red.

It was tuned for the Kent racing cam today, head coming off on Monday for new cam belt, valve guides, HG and piston rings. Span the wheels changing 3rd to 4th today, big smiles all round smile

Just an update as I took the Golf on the PH Yorkshire Snotter Run yesterday.

Anyone who:

a) has a snotter
b) likes driving
c) can wake up early
d) can get to Leeds / Harrogate area by 7am on a Sunday morning should check out the Yorkshire section.

Anyway, the car has had a bit of work done now. Head off, gas flowed and ported, valve stem guides done, cam belt done, full oil and fluids service. Next job is to get the whining fuel pump swapped out.

A few pics:

Yep, spent quite a lot on the engine. Interior and paint is still tatty, needs someone to bring it back to life smile
