Good film for the action, but having not watched any of the previous films I didn't really know what was going on other than they're running away. And I could have done a better job in acting than Tom Hardy in this film.

Wish I'd seen it in the IMAX though, I imagine it would have been visually spectacular.
I definately recommend that, felt like my eyes were bleeding at the end.

I watched it last night (and paid £13.50 for the upgraded Showcase 3D "XPLUS" experience which turns a really crap dated cinema screen into one that's considered normal everywhere else only it still has the same old awful seats).

Overall I enjoyed it but the storyline was weak as others have already said and despite the little touches that hinted back at the earlier films there wasn't really any sense of the timeline involved or enough back story on how everyone was in this particular situation. It's obviously going to spawn more as Hardy has signed up for another 3 - presumably these are going to fill gaps left by Fury Road but I'd rather have one great film than several weak ones. I'd also prefer it if his Australian accent didn't have hints of Bane.

Great car porn of course and it was good to see Hugh Keays-Byrne back as a slightly oddball bad man but it just didn't tick enough boxes in the story department and some of the continuity stuff grated on me a bit like the whole blocked valley being cleared up so well for the return trip.

Also anything with Rosie Huntington-Whiteley seems to be terrible.

Glad I saw it but slightly disappointed it didn't live up to the hype and all the trailers pretty much covered it all for free in advance. I would have liked a bit less "girl power" and a lot more Mad Max 2 (I actually think he would have better to go with the remake option of the other three and incorporate Fury Road ideas in there).

I'll watch it again but I'll always be a little disappointed by it.

On a related note - some tossbag was smoking an ecigarette through it all complete with flashing blue light and "smoke", I don't get out much but is that a thing now in the cinema?

I loved it. George Miller has effectively made a whole movie out of the final chase scene from Mad Max 2, and he did a very good job of it. A 120 minute running time that flew by, almost non-stop action and a pounding soundtrack, all of which added up to a fine action movie.

Even the Red Letter Media reviewers (for those of you aware of them) couldn't fault it, which is high praise indeed IMO.

I absolutely loved it. One thing I did not like was the 3D. It was not really needed and I thought it made the picture a shade darker. Gonna watch it again in 2D.

I went in really expecting something special after reading all the dribbling reviews. I think the fact that here, on a forum dedicated to people who love cars, we had lots of people complaining its a " 2 hour long car chase" says it all. The FX are amazing, the world building is sensational, the vehicles are cool - but the plot is fking dreadful. What little of it there is is riddled with holes and howlers. And Mad Max does fk all except grunt like he's on the bog straining for a st. And when he does speak he sounds Romanian.

Oh and one other thing - after reading all the reviews where it's being hailed as an iconic feminist movie I thought "great - an action film that I can take the girlfriend to and we will both enjoy it". FAIL - do not, repeat do not, take your other half along to see it. Im still paying for it now frown

I've just driven through Spain.

Their cinema complexes are awesome. They have house size posters on the outside ( well one did ) it was for mad max but there was a 20 foot picture of Charleze theron* (spelling) and max was behind her as if just an incidental character.

Is this even a mad max film? The story seems to be totally about therons character

People seem to be forgetting that these films have never really been about Max (the first could be an exception) - he is just the lense with which we see the world and what is happening in it. One way of looking at it could be that all of the movies, as there's little continuity, are just "Tales of the Road Warrior", which may or may not be true.

I spotted a lizard running near me today, but didn't have guts stomping it, as it had only one head

Watched this last night and have mixed feelings. Great cars, action scenes, stunts, and mental people but the storyline lacked for me. Growing up with the originals this felt like a watered down version. After the start with all the oddness there was nothing really to link it all together and explanations on why it was like that?

With the originals you had a beginning and the end and you understood why Max was involved. This just seemed like it was telling a small incident that happened with no explanation on why. 7/10 but could have been so much better.

No, totally unrelated. Although I think the actor ks the guy that played the Toecutter.

The very limited explanations about why it's all how it is, is intentional and in some ways similar to the original Star Wars films. As the viewer you just get plonked in a completely formed and utterly different world that most importantly is extremely lived in, so you just accept it. If you try and justify it with midichlorians and politics it all falls apart.

Even in the first film Max has always been the outsider, always looking to move on. And apart from seeking revenge on the bike gang in the first film, all the plots have basically been the same.

Funnily enough I also thought in some ways this whole different world with strange things happening did seem a bit like Star Wars. I thought it improved roughly halfway through but it never really had that basic action thrash story of the originals. I was almost expecting signs of a nuclear war in the past like ruined roads, towns etc. which would've linked in nicely almost with how we live today. This felt like a pursuit through the Sahara. As has been said it wasn't Tom Hardy's finest hour and though I appreciate the character is not your standard 'good' guy I really found it hard to root for Max at all during the entire film. Fundamentally I enjoyed it though!

Just to add, thought the citadel was all a bit over the top and slightly out of place in a MM film. But as with all modern action films does the camera ever stop shaking in fight scenes? It adds to the chaos but at times it was getting downright confusing as to who was hitting who.

Saw it tonight in 3D (not seen a 3D film before). I like it a lot, and agree with things said already. It's more Furiosa than Max, its a 2 hour chase scene, there isn't much plot, its not as bloody. I don't have a problem with any of those things though, its still a Mad Max film smile . Although In the Mel Gibson films, Max WOULD have found a way of removing the chain and bloodline from the other guy at the beginning, if the shotgun didn't work, he'd have hacked the guys hand off with the car door or something hehe . I'm thinking back to stuff in the original MM's like the dripping petrol tank, leaving the guy to cut through the bumper or his leg.

Saw this last night. They should have called it 'Mindless Max.'

Poor dialogue, very little plot, no character development and after an hour or so I was feeling pretty bored with the whole thing. I could tell I wasn't the only one as people in the cinema seemed to be walking in and out during the film and i've never experienced that before.

It's got the Mad Max brand name behind it so people look at this with rose-tinted specs and fawn over it. The reviews seem to be very good and it's rather misleading because imo the film's tosh.

On the plus side, the car engines sounded nice and there was a few cool scenes.

I wish I could get my money back for the ticket, or had my cerebral cortex temporarily removed to enjoy watching this film. Quite possibly the worst film i've ever paid money to see.

Yes this annoyed me massively, but I guess they wanted him to stick about for plot reasons
