What car from my shortlist (£3K, 4/5 door, quick)
Discussion
Hi all,
New car time comes round in January, so starting to get ideas together as to what it will be.
I have a budget of £3k, need 4 or 5 doors (so hatch, saloon or estate) and want something with a bit of poke. It can't be crippling to run and must be reliable.
My shortlist is this:
1. Volvo S60 T5
2. Saab 9-3 Aero
3. BMW 330i / 328i / 325i
4. VW Golf Mk4 GTi 1.8T (w/ remap)
5. Seat Leon Cupra (w/ remap)
6. Skoda Octavia VRs (w/ remap)
Just wondering what people would choose and why.
If you can think of any suitable car that I haven't thought of then say, but chances are I will have, and will have dismissed it for a reason.

As you say you have probably already considered and have reasons against, which is fair enough but just in case...
Jag X-type 3.0 V6, manual, AWD (all 2.5 and 3.0 are).
SE for comfy, Sport model for slightly stiffer setup.
Engines are bullet proof, transfer box can be troublesome (it will be at some point, mine has been replaced).
0-60 in 6.6, 147 max.
70mph in 2nd, 90mph in 3rd.
Town 21-22mpg
Cruising @ 75 should see 34-36mpg
Cruising @ 65 I get around 40mpg
Many service parts cost peanuts as they're Ford shared.

Considered these but:Jag X-type 3.0 V6
- Don't want the complexity (and associated repair costs) of 4wd, or indeed the 4wd handling
- Less economical (and more to tax) than my other choices
- Don't like the looks of them

How much does the transfer box cost when it goes? Jag X-type 3.0 V6, manual, AWD (all 2.5 and 3.0 are).

Bottom of auto trader ad says... 'needs an engine, conrod out the side' http://tinyurl.com/8aaobcl
Best have a rummage in all your neighbors sofas too for the repair bill...!
