There's a big Vauxhall stand at Goodwood for the Festival of Speed (great day today!) mainly promoting the new Astra. For whatever reason they seem to be under the impression that putting old Mk 1 and Mk2 Astras on the stand will bring customers flocking to the new car - another triumph of GM marketing in the UK. Tucked away to one side is our old friend the VX220 and sitting next to that a LHD Pontiac Solstice. I thought the Solstice looked pretty good externally although the interior was a little low rent. At the right price I had the impression it could sell well in Europe, ie around £20k. No sign of a C6 Vette of course - I bet they flew that red one straight back to uncle Sam even if it was allowed out with Euro lights for a couple of days!

Steve, there was a metallic red C6 in the Supercars stand.

Wasn't that impressed seeing one in the flesh at last but did prefer it over the C5. Looked a bit meek next to the other mad cars there but they were a bit extreme. At least the vette is a usable supercar. MG V8 also looked a bit of a tool.

Didn't see you there Steve, were you one of the Wacky Racers? Did you see Penelope Pitstop when she got in the car. She was a right sort.....

Didn't get to the Supercars 'cos I thought it would be the same old same old......shows how wrong you can be though still leaves the question why Vauxhall disowned it! I guess the answer must be they're going to have a go with the Solstice having failed with the Vette last time around. Can't see that they're going to do any better in UK unless it's RHD myself. Fiat Barchetta sales tell a story all their own even after a £3,000 price cut.
Wacky racers? Most certainly! Walked (climbed) up to the top of the hill to see the wacky racers and then half way back down again to see the gravity nutters go. Nasty spill for one of the early runners so I'm glad nobody asked me to take a run with no brakes!
Maybach and/or SLR and/or new Roller? No thank you.
Did like the Honda lawn mower in BAR colors though....

Edited to add: Ms Pitstop is available at

Nothing found at the end of the link I'm afraid.

Take a look at pic no 8004. What's going on with the outboard rear light pair? Are there reflectors built in across the centre of the lamp or what? There have to be reflectors somewhere within specified dimensions for type approval I'm sure and I think this is in part what led to the C5 fog lamps/reflectors being cut into the rear valance. Back of C6 does look tidy.

That link works ! Yes the outboard lights do look like they have a wide reflector through them, reminds me of an elastoplast bandage though !

I like Neil's shot of the front threquarters, doesn't make it look too bad but now I can see new warts on its face, I presume they are headlamp washers.

Why on earth did they fit clear side repeater indicators when the front and rear side marker lights are orange ? Those side markers still look wrong to me too, the shape just isn't balanced from front to rear. The door handles still remind me of 1980s cars like my flimsy old Renault 5.

Has someone changed the rear fascia ? The lights seem to be ovoid whereas I thought they were round when I saw them before.
