Fake laughing/ screaming on tv
Discussion
Why?
Partner is watching Alan Carr (the shame!) and most of the material is unfunny, so is the fake laughing played over the crowd to create atmosphere?
In the same sort of scenario, the fake crowd screaming and wooping when a non-celeb is announced, is this again purely to get the crowd going in a modern form of 'applause card'?

Having been at the recording of one of these type of shows, the floor manager stands just off camera and instructs you when to laugh, how long for, how much whooping etc. It get's practised 2 or 3 times before the recording starts. When it's edited they select the best bits of laughter and put them in where they want, cutting out any shouts, jeers or whistles that don't fit in.
I dont mind Alan Carr, but did noticed the very first joke he did, which was pretty poor was immediately followed by a shot of a guy bent over in hysterics.
with things like QI, they sometimes reuse the first laughter track if they need to refilm a question, but cant imagine them doing a retake at the apollo.
Andi Osho was as crap as ever.
