Looking for new amp set up, currently using a Meridian pre anp and a Meridian 557 power amp, Spendor SP9e speakers and a Meridian 808 CD player.

Power Amp is getting a little noisey now and thought I might replace it and the pre amp, just not sure what to go for.

Also thinking of some elcetro static speakers, must be full range ones as I don't want separate woofers, any thoughts on these as well?

Cheers

I have owned Meridian 557, 558 and 559 (the latter I had a pair and drove in bridged mode!), but by far and away the best power amp that I have had was a Pass Labs X250. I have used a Meridian Processor 568.2 as a pre for years now as all of my sources are digital, but I have heard Pass labs pre's as well.

I would strongly recommend a s/h Pass Labs combo, should set you back around 3K (second hand, of £14K new if you're feeling flush!)

The 557 may just need a service though, and thats something that Meridian still do, though you have to go through a dealer these days, rather than dealing direct with the factory.

Ive got Naim stuff
Mine too is a little noisy these days but naim tell me they can re cap the amp making it as good as new.

Would Meridain not offer a similar service?

I expect this may be teaching you to suck eggs but do you leave the amps always on? Mine sounds grim from cold.
