TSR 2 Presentation
Discussion
I have to complete a presentation as part of my basic training with the RAF, our syndicate have chosen the TSR 2, if any one has any interesting 'tit bits' about the aircraft, its development or its demise it would be greatly appreciated! keep them short if you can, for example 'TSR 2 had oblique - looking radar'
You could do a lot worse than pick up a copy of PHer DamienB's book. Info here: http://www.tsr2.info/
Buy Damien Bs book "Britains Lost Bomber"
All the info you could ever wish for. Also there is on Youtube a documentary in slices.
Also a DVD is available...I'm not writing it for you as that's how you learn by actually compiling the info.
edited for spooling and to be beaten to it...Can I thank you for your book Damien. Great piece of work.
After reading it and watching a few docs on the subject, my conclusion was that the engine failures were the straw that broke the camels back. Favourite "black" funny bit was when the brand new fire engine was destroyed by the fuel running down hill to it when the testbed caught fire!! DOH!

Naturally I third the recommendation of my book...
Happy to help with photos etc. and if you want to run the presentation by me when complete for any checking, please do! Try not to fall into the 'best thing ever made' trap and be a little wary of the video on youtube, which has several factual errors.

Currently reading one of Roland Beamont's books (The Years Flew Past). He was one of the test pilots on the project and is well worth reading for some personal insights. Naturally, he is very "pro" the project so not the most dispassionate of commentators.
Next month's Aeroplane Monthly is going to feature an "In Detail" special on the TSR-2 as well.

When reading Damien B's book just ignore the bit of history on page 85 that is wrong
Go on then, I'll bite. Which bit?Having just checked that page, it's all backed up by BAC documentation except for the Canberra/U-2 shootdowns which are recorded as such in several other sources.

Mea culpa then... I think I can live with it though
Edit - however wiki does say "In 1998, newly declassified information revealed that Powers’ mission had been a joint USAF/CIA operation.", and presumably it is referring to this document:
