I was listening to Radio 4's Feedback this pm, and some caller described the BBC as having been the "Coalition's lackeys for the last 5 years" or some such.

I nearly crashed the van.

Either a stooge or if genuine they will have been prioritised to make a bogus point. One caller will be held to 'prove' how right-wing the BBC is.

For three decades I was that rare breed – a Conservative at the BBC. In my time working on programmes such as Today and Breakfast News I couldn’t have formed a cricket team from Tory sympathisers...you feel almost part of an ethnic minority.

"So the reason we have decided to broadcast Songs Of Praise from "The Jungle" in Calais, is to show that they are all like you and me. They are just normal people trying to escape terrible persecution & poverty in their own lands & build a new life in a country that understands their needs. We'll show that they are trying to build a better future for themselves and their families and all you needed to hear is the terrible stories they've been telling us of persecution and suffering. We found one man, who told us as he sobbed about his daughter who works as a housekeeper for a group of seven men, who treat her like a slave and all have either personality disorders or infectious diseases. One woman told us how her son works 23 hours a day down a mine, for one scheckel every six months and lives in a shoe box in the middle of the road. We are all part of this problem and what these people need is understanding and respect to make them an inclusive part of our society."

"People in the UK need to be made aware of the situation and not look to extreme answers to current problems. Clearly, lessons need to be learned on both sides and the issues presented need to be seen as a challenge to the people of this country but we should never excluded anyone on basis of ignorance."

Reckon I'm pretty good at this, think I'll send that off to the beeb. I'm sure something will be issued shortly to justify yet another decision of the culture which permeates the BBC.

We know better than you.
People who claim to be persecuted would never dream of lying to anyone and everything they say should be taken as gospel.
You need to understand that everyone is equal and if we all just got along everything would work out fine.
If you disagree with this, YOU ARE A RACIST!!!

It staggers me how out of touch these people really are.

I think you may have missed the point of 'Songs Of Praise'. As its name suggests, it's a religious show (and yes, I understand that religion gets everybody on here really really angry). One of the basic - and actually quite nice - tenets of the Christian faith (of which I am NOT a practicioner) is compassion. You may feel that in this case the compassion is misplaced, but a Christian would disagree with you.

Anyone else notice the convicted pejurer Vicky Price (she of speeding points) on Radio 4 this morning as a "senior economist".

Poor?! wink Kerching!

When anything (by anyone) which is less than kind to Labour policy or a Party icon is given space by the beeb, it's due to the target not being sufficiently left wing, as pointed out by a seasoned ex-staffer and illustrated here.

Yep, I've noticed the increased frequency of her appearances too. I guess they think a Greek economist (oxymoron?) is best placed to comment on the Eurozone crisis?

She keeps good company ..... from her Wikipedia page....under "Personal Life"

"She is currently (as of Jan 2014) "very friendly" with former Europe minister Denis MacShane."

....birds of a feather etc etc

I don't really know if this an attempt to manipulate thought through language control a la NewSpeak, or not. However on R4 'Today' on Monday Kathy Klugston, she of the near impenetrable Northern Irish accent, twice stumbled over 'illegal migrants' by almost saying 'illegal immigrants' before hurriedly correcting herself.

She's been on with increasing regularity since her release.

Possibly seen as a female victim of an evil man, perfect recipient for taxpayers cash from the BBC to help IHT her rehabilitation.

Just another crook IMO.

Also hosted Great Lives yesterday.

There is relevance though, her being of Greek origin.

Just seems odd for the BBC to pick her when there must be a plethora of others to choose from, given "economist" & "conviction for perverting the course of justice" regularly appear in the same sentence.

She must have some other impeccable qualification

It does wind me up when I hear/see her on the Beeb. She does seem to have been chosen as the "go-to" person for Greek comments but I seem to recall her being given lots of airtime for her prison experiences. I can only assume she has friends or fits the right demographic.
At least Chris Huhne, after a brief resurgence once he emerged from the clink, seems to have been ticked into touch. I did think for a moment that he was going to continue to be a public figure. (If he is making lots of appearances and I've not noticed, please don't point it out as the blood pressure is dangerously high as it is).

Was it BBC Editorial?

The BBC has previously broadcast material that isn't strongly pro-Labour, usually when Labour aren't Left enough for the BBC, or if Labour are damaging their own chances (Labour being generally incompetent this is not uncommon) or from third party instigation not a Chief Political Correspondent or a Newsnight Producer offering The Guardian to a presenter to angle the story etc.

The occasional, rather than the commonplace, remains occasional. The overwhelming evidence base for bias remains, including self-confession.

Point lost - and it's been tried before.

I take your point - but it was some pretty serious anti-Labour stuff that I thought deserved a mention in a thread such as this. By the way, it was a very good programme; mostly about the V&A. A shame you refuse to watch the BBC, otherwise you could just click on the link and see it too.

Until she retired some years ago, a close relative spent most of her working career at the BBC London. She insisted back then that the BBC was very politically biased to the left. We often argued about this as I was convinced her "always vote Tory" stance clouded the issue.

The passing years show she was quite right. No question.
