Yup, RS Performance is no more. This is the last of them, I have to finish some minor stuff myself.

Hi RiFdaughter. The car is mine and will (theoretically) be finished this weekend, barring the IVA.

THere should be an event soon organised by LowFlying Magazine for an article including Henrietta and Paul Richards for its official unveiling. You should come along.

Have you had chance to have a shakedown run in the V6?

Not yet. furious Getting over the finishing line with this car is proving to be a frustrating experience.

We can't get the rev counter to work, or the lights to flash, and a few other minor oddities. However it should be on the dyno tomorrow and at Bedford GT on the 15th March. Hopefully everything works as it should do.

488hp at the wheels should be enough to be getting on down the road with, roughly 575-600hp at the crank. There were a few hundred revs left too, so it'll be over 500 as the power curve/line was still climbing. This motor will actually rev to 13k if allowed!

Should have the graph soon to post up.

100bhp loss through the gearbox sounds massive in such a light car, is that normal as its about 20% loss

13000rpm?
I bet that would sound fruity on the overrun!

One of the biggest problems once over cica 350 hub BHP and 300ft Lb the box will protest, if it's still a (standard) Sadev that is. I discussed that with Steve at SWR before I fitted one to my Honda K20 7 together with Geartronics paddle shift, but as most of you guys on here with over 250 hub BHP you brake traction before over torquing the box.
The box will not take all that energy for long!!!. But then hands up all those that can keep the wire stretched for long enough???
I've got a genuine 260/170 hub figures (TDI lakeside) and I had to fit a gearbox oil cooler as even at brands (trackday) and on the dyno the box oil was over temp.
Still a wonderful project and a fantastic display of engineering. Engage warp drive Scotty!!!!!

A bit more progress.... Not quite there yet but at least it's useable now and doesn't overheat anymore. A recent remap with new gearbox internals and with some actual oil in this time resulted in 520hp at the wheels at 10,000rpm.

No overheating issues, in fact the water temp didn't go above 74 whilst on track so the additional under body duct was removed.

It didn't cut out, always made its way back into the pits under its own power and the paddle-shift system worked perfectly!

The marshals spotted my VBox and cameras and demanded the SD card as timing is forbidden, so I chucked my Go-Pro on, not ideal but I have some footage from when we remembered to start it recording.

It's properly scary around Oulton though, only having previously really used it on Silverstone's GP circuit. Even Steve who is a hardened Caterham/Radical racer is wary of it, just starting it up is intimidating. Outlon is fast but bumpy and the un-sorted suspension wasn't liking it causing the rear wheels to spin over bumps, I had a slight moment around the bend of clay hill around 120mph where I was facing the barriers until a handful of opposite lock and hope let the car sort itself out.

Throwing on my new spare wheels with new slicks was harder than imagined. Caterham CSR wheels apparently don't fit all Caterhams and everything fouled everywhere despite assurances they wouldn't. Got the rears on eventually after buying spacers from the handy racer shop on-site. Fronts refused to go on as they fouled the brake callipers so it was a bit mis-matched. Still, the rear slicks helped calm things down a bit so I got a bit braver and started using more of the throttle and revs and of course tripped the noise sensors at 107db. Black flag and the noise test sticker removed. We both only got to 8k of the 10k revs available before bottling it and clicking up a gear so the next job is to extend the exhausts under the car and have a rear exiting silencer.

So it started each and every time, idled perfectly, changed gear via paddle up and down perfectly, stopped ok (some squealing, could be stronger), handled sort of ok (needs tuning) and went forward way too fast for me or Steve to feel totally comfortable. The new intercom worked also.

Bad things, still need to resolve the exhaust once and for all, the decibel devil inserts aren't enough, the supercharger reservoir tank still blows oil out of the breather and the suspension needs setting up with corner weighting and maybe a front anti-roll bar and damper adjustments.
This is Steve my Caterham expert going out for the first few tentative laps tootling around.

The 2nd video is me also cruising around whilst Steve is keeping on eye on gauges for temps etc.

Wished we'd tried harder to sort the brake squeal earlier. On my video you can see me getting black flagged after Shell Oils hairpin.

All in all, I'm a lot happier with it, out again next month and will definitely be leaning on it a lot more.

Gearbox didn't have any oil in it at the time, unbeknown to us..... Sore subject.. it seized shortly afterwards.

This is really surprising given that a good deal of the TDOs offer VBOXs for rental! Running predictive timers or the beacon operated timers is usually a 'no no' as it encourages you to push, but a VideoVBOX is generally not seen as an issue as it's not providing live data to the driver! I'd ask (politely) if they could clarify with the TDO next time....
