Being in the bracket of 25-30 years of age means that I never watched these shows first time round. Thanks to Sky+ series link I have got more episodes of these excellent shows than I can watch in a night at the moment.

I used to want to stick pins in my eyes when my old man harped on saying, "they don't make films/programmes/music (delete as appropriate) like this anymore" but I feel he would be right when it came to these shows.

Does anyone else enjoy watching re-runs of these classics?

Just caught up with the last of The Professionals on ITV4 as now they're now showing the ones I've seen over the last few months.

Thread about it here: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Great stuff. smile

Never could really get into The Sweeney and didn't really like Minder at all.

The Sweeney is great TV, I hope the new film lives up to it's hard edged original.

2 ugly blokes chatting up birds of all ages, drinking whisky, smoking, getting suddenly angry all the time at everything and everyone, thinking every man joining the team who doesn't drink or smoke is gay, all snitches are unwashed dirtbags, all pub landladies look like Bet Lynch, all senior officers must be hated even when helping them, all Scots are called Jock, all Welsh are called Taffy and all Irish are called Paddy. non-PC at it's finest.

And have you noticed no matter how often they go on about age and seniority the squad member who turn up for a fight always consist of much older men, they must have zero career prospects. smile

Ps. have you also spotted Dave Angel on the team as well? He makes appearances when they need backup, I remember him on The Trap episode at the end when they storm the yard. biggrin

Fast Show's Dave Angel, Eco Warrior.

I bet the film will be a let down!

Blasphemer!!!!!

Minder (The original ones with Dennis Waterman) is one of the best programmes to come from Euston Films (or was it Mark One?)

Obviously dated now, as is the Sweeney and The Professionals.... But still hugely watchable and enormously enjoyable.

I've got the DVD boxset of all episodes of The Professionals (including Klansmen) and whilst great to watch, still doesn't hold a candle to the first five series of Minder.

The one-off "Minder on the Orient Express" which I don't think gets much airtime on TV any more is probably the best of the bunch, with some big names in the cast.

Perfect Christmas TV material if you can get a copy of it - flake out in front of the TV with a glass of your favourite tipple, and I defy you not to enjoy it.
