Hi,
I wonder if any of you lovely people can help me shed some light on a very intermittent problem I have with my ro. It makes a crunchy noise and something seems to move. Its done it a few times to me and it's always when pulling away slowly. I think it's after when the car has been in netural and I put it in first to pull away. It doesn't do it all the time, it's probably done it about 3 times in the last month. It's hard to describe because I forget to look out for it when driving. It feels like something drops down (maybe the gearstick). Sorry for my poor attempt of describing it! Any suggestions would be much appreciated!!!

P.s happy Christmas every one!

James

I Get somthing like this sometimes.
Is the TC sign coming up on the dash ?

Only happens in 1st ? and only when trying to pull away slow ?
And just before the car stats to move, as you start to lift the clutch ?

I'm not sure about the light (it may come on) but everything is pretty much bang on to what you get!

Its done this on mine for a long time on and off,
Seams to be nothing to worry about.
My cars been well looked at, and rear end all upgraded and have no other issues, so i would not worry about it smile

Gearbox ism. Mine has done it too. I have also done it in other cars, just not pushed it home enough. I stopped worrying about my gearbox when I realise they are all a bit like this.

Talking of gearbox, I need to get round to taking it for its first visit to the fish for some royal purple.

Mine does this too, I think it's quite common. It's a nasty feeling though, gives me the old 'arse like a rabbits nose'

It's getting worse!!! I've just driven it too its mot and back and it's done it about 4 times. If I slowly lift off the clutch it will somes times make a horrible grinding nosie just at the biteing point.

I think I've got 2 different problems, 1 that 007 has which I'm not too bothered about now I know a few other people experience it. The other noise I'm now getting is a wurry rubbing noise coming from around the gearbox. It only does it when pulling away (not every time but seems to be getting more frequent). Also 1-2 gear change seems to be getting harder. Could this be a sign of the spigot bearing beginning to fail?

Thanks

Mate, I think it is the clutch release bearing, and possibly the slave cylinder. How many miles?

Looking through older posts on here, I think renpug had the same problems. I think I'm left with only one option ad that's to remove the box and check. It's getting worse and worse.

I would say spigot bearing , it's very common , put a clutch in it while it's out if you can . Careful getting the old bearing out it's a pain , there is a core plug behind it

Thats what i think too. The more posts I read on here about it, the more it points to that. Just hope it hasn't damaged anything else. Does anyone know where i can buy a bearing puller that works on the spigot bearing? At least i got something to do christmas day now!

Thanks

I need to update my topic now it's all finished, but I think my problem was just the clutch.

I was getting the hard pedal when changing gears after hard acceleration and then the grinding started as well. I pulled the box off and the clutch was shot, the flywheel and the pressure plate were also covered in heat spots from clutch slip, something I knew was happening as with the T/C off it wouldn't spin the wheels from a full on standing start, just got a lot of clutch smell. I've fitted a new LS7 clutch and spigot bearing although mine was only just starting to fail. For the puller you need one like this http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/... although I could not get it to grip my bearing enough to pull it out so I had to drill it. While the box is off fit a remote bleed line from Monkfish, worth the money all day long. I had a nightmare getting all the air out my slave and without the remote line I think I would have gone mad if I had been trying to bleed it under the car out the standard valve. Good luck with it, drop me a message if you need any info.
