The Fat Duck, Bray - why so hard to book?
Discussion
Enjoy - the Hinds is great "pub" food, nothing like the Fat Duck at all. To be honest I prefer the food at the Hinds (I live in Maidenhead so eat there fairly regularly) - I've only eaten at the Fat Duck once and whilst it was the best "experience" dinner I've ever had, I'm not in a rush to go back. Make sure you try the scotch eggs at the Hinds - best thing on the menu (runny yolk)!

I much prefer the Crown (another Heston pub in bray) to the Hind's head. Anyone else agree? I found the hind's head completely lacking in identity. Plus the food at The Crown was superior IMO, and it looks like a proper old fashioned pub with open fires and exposed beams. The Hind's head is just weird. Doesn't look or feel like a pub in the dining area, nor a restaurant!Dom

Caldessi's would be my restaurant of choice in Bray
Not heard of that one! What sort of food is it? I'll check it out!http://caldesi.com/caldesi-in-campagna/

You'll find me in the crown every Friday evening propping up the bar!Dom
Was at The Crown for lunch today. Had their Christmas Turkey which was stunning. Soaked in a water bath for 6 hours before being roasted apparently... I work in Maidenhead and in the complete absence of anything decent in Maidenhead, Bray - and The Crown in particular is a great alternative. The Waterside Inn is also v v good.

Heston was interviewed by Richard Bacon on 5 live today. Apparently they receive 31,000 telephone calls for each 42 seats per day. An astonishing figure, I'm guessing it's a lot of redialling after failure to get through!
When asked if celebs could queue jump, he was quite adamant that he supported the idea of a young couple who have saved up for a couple of years to have a special meal, and could never displace already booked people for celebs. Tony Bliar had been turned down 3 times

Hoping to get an evening table for 4 anytime in March 2016
Does anyone have any recent tips in regards to booking?
I understand its online only, they open first Weds each month for 3 months ahead
I have no idea how many tables it seats (recently re-opened)
I'm guessing:
Most popular will be weekend evening table for 2.
So aim for mid week evening, table for 4 better odds than table for 2?

What does it take to get a table at The Fat Duck? The OH has tried from the second dates were released on online and is offered nothing but the waiting list. In fact, the whole booking system seems as clear as mud. I can well imagine demand being very high but seems odd that nothing is available now until new dates are released next?
I've just upset the OH though, and said if someone makes it so hard to eat somewhere I don't want to go anyway. Might see what availability at Royal Hospital Road is instead. ETA: Just learnt this is a 6 month wait for Friday night dinner.
This place is only just over a mile away. Certainly worth a look in.I've just upset the OH though, and said if someone makes it so hard to eat somewhere I don't want to go anyway. Found out about 18 months ago that locals have a priority booking number for The Fat Duck (think they can also book further than 3 months in advance). Friends of my sister used to live near enough to have access to it and took advantage of the number a few times. Alas for me they've since moved away (alas to near one of the specialist children's hospitals).
I was lucky with my booking - though it was a 'lots of redialing' method, no longer possible alas.

Will double check with my mate who lives in Bray, pretty sure he just used the normal process to book when we went a year or so back. Though we did do the sensible thing and go for a midweek lunch.I was lucky with my booking - though it was a 'lots of redialing' method, no longer possible alas.
