Especially when it comes to things like 190Es or the E300 above which usually seem to be offered with a bit of a naff spec and colour combo. I can't for the life of me see why you'd want one over a usually cheaper, better looking offering from Bavaria of a similar vintage?
In fact I'll say the only Mercedes to vaguely interest me from that sort of time period would be a W126 SEC, and only that would be to pretend I was an 80s drug dealer. Much better ride than most BMWs of any vintage. As you get older these things become important... maybe most, but certainly not all. a nice E34 SE has one of the best ride qualities of any car i've ever been in. they're absolutely sublime, and less rolly-polly than older mercs too.

Depends on the quality of the road surface and speed your travelling at IMO. The W124 does lean a bit more when cornering at speed, but it absorbs road imperfections better, much roomier cabin inside than a e34 as well despite being about the same exterior dimensions.

Specs seem a bit 'hair shirt' now (wind up windows and cloth upholstery) but that only increases the smoker appeal. 279- Big yes to the W126 SEC. Excessive and tasteless but still fantastic. I'd even say that 'improvements' are in keeping as long as they are true to the period and stop short of chromed arches.
