Hi Guys

Any of you got a view to which is the better semi slick tyre to use in circuit racing?

Been using R888's for a number of year's, very good tyre, better than A048's in my opinion but are the the Dunlop's better still?

The top ten at Oulton were all on the Dunlops according to Burpspeed.

Yes smile they are a superb tyre and i think they are a made on race carcass instead of just a road tyre with soft tread and are lighter too. From people who have used 888's a lot one of the biggest problems is that the side walls are quite weak and so you have to use extra pressure to try to get over the problem. They also go off a lot quicker than the dunlops.

On my e92 m3 i run them at 2,1 to 2.3 bar as recommended from a german company with a lot of race experience and they seem to be spot on.

Does any one know if the dunlops are road legal?

I know this doesn't answer your question, but whether legal or not, these tyres really aren't suitable for road use if for no other reason than road driving screws them up. They're so soft when compared to regular tyres, they pick up all the little bits of crap.

I'm not sure how the lightweght cars fare on the road with them, but I certainly wouldn't recommend mid-weight cars (1000-1400kg) using them off track; if only due to the cost of replacement.

list 1a and list 1b tyres have to be road legal.

I,ve run the older dunlop trackday tyres on the road, they are ok, but a bit scarey if there is standing water around, and dont last long.

Drove around loads with mine on a 1130 Kg 944 S2. They held up to road use surprisingly well and handle wet roads even more surprisingly well. I wouldn't do it though as mine went off from being put through too many heat cycles even though they had plenty tread left. Very quickly becomes a false economy. Debris pick up didn't seem that bad.

I was just wondering as its one of the criteria I have to meet for competing in a few autosolos. I¡¦d more than likely sling them in the boot and change on site, wouldn¡¦t want to run the risk of getting crud on them. Although saying that some autosolo tracks are covered in muck! ƒº

My trackday car is only used on road to get to and from circuits. I run a set of RE050As on the road which double as 'wets'. I carry a second set of wheels with the R888s which I fit on arrival.

As this thread is about toyo vs dunlop,i think the following is relevant,a couple of years ago we raced a car on dunlop track day tyres as a control tyre,we where able to change to toyos, much cheaper and faster, not so cheap now.
