I’m currently planning the road trip part of me and my future wife’s honeymoon for this August, which involves an eight day trip covering around 1000 miles picking up and dropping off at Las Vegas. The obvious choices through Hertz are the Ford Mustang GT Premium, the Dodge Challenger RT and the Chevy Camaro SS.
I like the Challenger but the interior is quite poor in my opinion, she likes the Mustang but all the (cheesy American) reviews I’ve read say the Camaro is the best of the three cars.
Anyone driven all three? Any recommendations?

Classic American roadtrip? Either of those 3 will be perfect. Don't worry about how they drive, it's not as if you're going to be clipping apexes.......just sit back, relax, and enjoy the cruise. I'm biased, and I'd take the Mustang, but the other 2 are just as good

Mustang is a rather last year The kind of driving you're going to be doing, it won't really matter. The interior in the Challenger (IMHO) does it let down. The boot aperture on the Camaro is small ( although the boot is a fair size) so soft bags are the order of the day. The Camaro does have nice touches like Ipod connectivity. However.......... Of the 3, the Camaro is also the most over muffled, you will be disappointed by the lack of V8 roar from the stock car. If it were me I would go for the Challenger. But then again I had a Stang for nearly 5 years and have had the Camaro for 16 months, so would be a change for me. What do you want from it?

Goes nicer, sounds nicer and generally has a better interior than the base V6 model. Challenger. Biggest and floatiest of the 3 with not a bad interior and easiest to get lots of luggage in. That might be a consideration if you are not staying in one place. Camaro Worst interior by far but feels the most Hot Roddy of them all. Cool HUD for that Top Gun feel and it's like driving something with a roof chop. Mustang Best interior by far and best engine with the new Boss 5.0. Not the most spacious but if there's only 2 of you, its the nicest place to be. Not a huge fan of the looks of the facelift model but it's got the overall package. I don't think either of the 3 will disappoint you.

Thanks everyone, some really useful responses there. I'm sure people are quite right that any of three would be good fun but as we'll be moving around quite a bit so I think I'll go for the Challenger, its the one I like the look of the most anyway.

The Mustang is the best handler but out there, that won't bother you. It has the best ineterior and sounds best but the looks after 2010 are a bit marmite.
I' d probably pik the Camaro just to see what it was like but on looks, the Challenger has them both licked. It depends how far you're going to drive. I've hired a V6 Charger and it was very dull inside and you'd hardly know what you were driving so to some degree what it looks like when you're inside, doesn't matter.
If you're more concerned with how it drives, I'd take the Mustang.

I've just booked a Challenger for a week in August through Hertz, picking up and dropping off at Las Vegas airport. I can't wait!

We'll be expecting lots of cool pics from the trip.

The rental car options certainly makes me think about the US more for trips. I'd like to start at trip in Chicago, but they don't have any decent cars there for some reason? Does anyone have a list for Hertz and Avis muscle car rental locations?

How hot are they on speed traps and enforcing the limit over there? I have a sod of a job in my camaro keeping my foot off the adrenalin pedal... Hiring one of those looks fab but with all those long straight roads, surely you'd just be tempted to floor it the whole time?!

On the huge long straights near Vegas they have signs saying speed limit enforced by aircraft, this calmed the speeding in the hertz mustang slightly.
We did have a little play with a challenger just outside Yosemite. I shouted something about bullett and floored it past some slower traffic (kinda had to, we were being persued and everything) then my wife woke up and asked if I was racing..... No dear, I'll slow down.
Loved the mustang we got, it was only the v6 and not paticularly good at anything but I'd have one tomorrow

This has probably come and gone, as may the OP but a Corvette would probably be better than all of them.
