I've been running with the rear carpet out for a couple of weeks to keep an eye on things and today I saw fluid under the tank for the first time coming out: drip, drip, drip so it would appear that the expansion tank has a small crack somewhere. I don't think I've ever lost enough fluid to get the carpet wet though as there's quite a lot of space under those polystyrene floor boards to collect fluid and then as the boot floor gets roasting hot from the exhaust, any modest leaks would tend to evaporate rather quickly thereafter...Have you done your's yet? The guide on pedrosgarage looks fairly straightforward.

Did you do a full coolant drain or can you get away with evacuating the expansion tank and perhaps draining a bit more?

The pictures show the distributor/manifold with the old tank removed and makes it clearer than some of the other guides why you need to tackle at least one spring clamp on the engine side.
Intersting that the replacement tank that this guy used did not have a hole for the dipstick!

The Mrs's Pork appears to have hit a milestone for things to need replacing.
Rads a few weeks ago, brakes last week, and yesterday the gear linkage appears to have 'popped' out.
Typically it happens over a bank holiday weekend but with a bit of luck it's nothing too drastic as I'm sure the suspension could do with a 'refresh' soon.

What are people’s opinions on the most cost effective way to re-fresh the suspension on my 996?
I’ve owned the car for nearly 8 years, she’s on c.150k miles, and is starting to feel a bit tired - I had the coffin arms done a couple of years ago, but the top mounts are very noisy and I'm sure the wear on them is contributing to the steering and handling feeling off.
Given the mileage, I'd like to keep the total costs to a minimum.

The most cost effective way is to DIY the work and buy the remaining arms from ebay. Get the TRW ones and you will find they are the same as the Porsche ones just with the Porsche logo ground off. But at this mileage the dampers are well past their best. If you are removing the strut to replace the top mount then consider whether the damper and spring should be replaced too.

Thanks.My thought was to replace spring/shock/ARB's via the MO30 kit that seems to be available for c.£650 and the top mounts... plus whatever bits and bobs needed doing.
I'm hoping the coffin arms will be OK given they are only a few years old.
I'm not sure my mechanical skills (or limited tool box) would stretch to DIY!

Right, couldn't decide whether this warranted it's own thread or a post on here.
So in the next few weeks I've a budget upto 8K, now my conundrum is quite what Porsche to go for...the basis of what I need is something that can be used regularly, is fairly practical (4 seats would be handy) and well that's about it..
Now I know logically a Boxster would make sense (4 seats aside) but part of me thinks a 996 , and part of me wonders on a 944/968 variant...would appreciate any thoughts people have. I'm fairly handy with tools so home maintenance isn't too much of a worry.

The 944/968 is built like a brick st house. Its a cliche, but the handling balance is sublime. They can be drifted at will, and all on the throttle. Really lovely. And actually the engine sounds quite nice once its above 4k ish.Of course they are old cars now and care is needed, rust is rearing its head but its not difficult to check them out.
I would have another tomorrrow.
Must admit the flat six engine note was part consideration, I've driven a 944 many moons ago and quite liked it, Boxster I had a run in was an early one and found it rather lifeless to be honest.
Did notice on the net last night a few nice 944 Cabriolet's, tick's most boxes and price wise seem to be very good value?

Is this an avoid at all costs issue, or one which could be lived with until funds for a rebuild, clutch, RMS and IMS could be saved up?
