Evening.

Quick Question. On call policy states we must be contactable 24/7. I understand you should have 11 hours clear time between shifts. We have to get up at 0130 am each morning we are on call to check a job has ran and still be in work at 9 until half 5.

Is this legal as I was led to believe you were entitled to an 11 hour clear period?

I thought it was 8 hours? Could be totaly wrong though. I used to work sunday nights as overtime and then go in for monday morning but they put a stop to that frown

I'd like to know what the law says as well - I'll be finishing tonight at 11, then will be back in for 7am.

I'm not too fussed if the company is being a tad naughty though, I'm just glad I'm in a job! smile

Here you go http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Employment/Employees/W....

We had the same discussion at work last year - I think you'll find that most companies will use the 'emergency' cop-out if you're on-call.

We finish at 22:30, and are back in for 06:30. I guess working for the NHS, we are exempt from all this working time regulation stuff.

It's a bit naughty saying you are on call and then giving you a routine check to make during the night. I'd expect to be called only if something was broken.

I work security at festivals in the summer and end up working 24 hours then an hours rest before the next shift. I had a look on direct gov and it says it's ok aslong as you get sufficient rest later in the week (not in those words).
