Hi Does anybody know what other cars use the same 2 pin coil packs as a DB9 or have a cheaper source? or where can I get some from?

PS Removed them tonight and found a water leak from the thermostat housing too - Doh..

I think they are used by Toyota. Search google and you will find some using the part number.

Take a look at this http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=109...

Yes looks like there are variants of the same coil used by toyota, ford etc but are slightly different such as the boot / conductor.... ? Shame as Toy-motor ones are $15 each...

If it's only the rubber boot and the spring inside it that are different it's a simple job to pull them off the old coil and swap them over. I've done that plenty of times with other makes of coil.

The ford ones are different!... Ive ordered the correct ones today as I need to get on with the job, tonight I pulled out the coils and noticed a leak on the cam cover, down onto the pas pump, started to strip it and found a wiring loom bracket at the back, consulted the manual to find you need to drop the rear suspension... what a job... I managed to get it off without, some jobs just get better!

Came to put it back together tonight and found the near side PCV valve stuck open! (As warned by Warren! - Cheers Warren) and got the cam cover back on and re-sealed with fresh sealer etc, what a job, that plastic bracket at the back of the manifold was a sod. Ill get the new plugs and coil packs in tomorrow night.

I warned you it was unlikely to be straightforward! Not sure why its always the near side one though, any thoughts?

Seems very strange to me, I will have a ponder... Has anybody got any ideas?

If only you knew what caused it, I was thinking, whilst apart, you maybe able to take some preventative action, like wrap it with a heat sheild or something to stop it repeating.

Ah Ha, I may have worked out why the N/S valve always sticks open.... The gas flow is designed to predominantly breathe through the O/S throttle body and the N/S is used as part of the gas 'balance' loop, thus the N/S valve only sees gas flow one way, thus forcing it open during normal running and it would seem as it is rubber it de-forms to the open natural position?

(Have a look at the workshop manual 03.08 Emission Control - See Diagram?

What do you think?

PS Still not sure swapping the valve will cure my engine from pulling oil over, does it need new separators in the centre of the block valley????

I see what you mean, sounds like a reasonable explanation. Can't think of an obvious way to cure it though.
When you say "pulling oil over" what do you mean? where is the oil evident? If by the throttle body I can give you the cure the AM race bods use.

Edited to say, its more of a work around than cure.

Would like an update on this subject as I'm in the need for a set of coil packs - being a MY2007, I guess 3 pin ones.... Thanks Nick

You can get them direct from Denso. I did, but mine were 2 pin. Car is long gone now so dont have any contact details but I recall a full set was only about £100 + £ 20 P&P. Google is your friend

Has anyone changed the coil packs on a DB9 by themselves as the engine is running a bit rough on idle when D or R is engaged ? Just wondered what was involved .Thanks
