Can somebody on this thread answer a serious question from a prospective buyer?

First, cards on the table. I lived with TVR's (no apology here) as every day transport for over 10 years (the pre AJP6 models with bulletproof engines) and loved them to bits. I therefore fully understand why some of us choose low production volume cars over mass produced (German) alternatives. I can also appreciate why others prefer to go the mass produced route. What I don't understand is why people would choose the "low volume" Evora route and then move the cars on (or try to!) early and at high depreciation. From what I have seen of the car, it seems to have adequate refinement to live with every day (no rattly four pot behind the seats), and more than enough performance for most of us. I can't see a down side! Yet there seems to be a lot on the second hand market considering how few have been sold new. What is it which makes people sell low mileage Evoras at a huge loss?

the cars you see are mostly ex managers cars, very few are privately owned. As such they are all very well serviced and looked after by the factory.

They really are starting to look good value IMO although I should not say this as I am looking for a good one myself.

Could be that an Evora isn't a long term car for a lot of people, but on the other hand I've kept mine longer than I have any other car.. I usually change once a year, but mine is almost two years old now..

He's right, many of the cars you see have gone through the management....lotus registers them, classing as a sort of sale, then let their managers ride around in them for a few thousand miles and then sell them on to the dealers at about fifteen twenty grand less. I have bought my last two an Elise and an evora in this way. They are registered to lotus cars, hethel, and have not really had an owner. A great way to make huge savings from new. BMW do the same, they are all you see on the roads near the depots e.g Thorne, Doncaster on m180.

Well, if anything like BMW, where my mother works, it's not so much managers, but also mechanics, valeters, office and admin staff. Jct dealer had three when I bought mine...all sold within days...and has just bought 8 more. That's just one dealer.

Also...look at number of high end porsches, Lamborghini gallardo etc on piston heads....maybe January, given the winter we had last year, is not the time to sell a super car. I bought a land rover this time two years ago due to heavy snow.

Any plate that starts AU will have been registered by the factory and therefore a "Managers" car, lots of the others will be dealer demonstration cars. Each dealer will have had several, one for each model year plus S & now IPS and IPS S models. Looks like some of the adverts are for new unregistered cars.

Still don't see too many around, some will find this attractive others perhaps will feel pressured to conform so for them German kit will make them feel comfy. No point in any comparison with Ferrari or even Aston as they are in a different price League all together both in initial cost and for running costs. Drive it and make up your own mind, seem like people with the cars love them.

They offered a spectacular deal to managers (specifically anyone of management grade) with the car renewed every 6 months. Virtually everyone that was eligible took it up.

Not all AU cars are factory registered, they can also be from Stratton Motor Company which is the dealership nearest the factory.

I don't think the dealers HAVE to take on every model as a demonstrator, certainly not what I've been told when talking to a few anyway.

Oops, that was a bit misleading. I should have said that factory cars are AU registered rather than all AU cars are from the factory.

The point I was trying to make is potential owners should not conclude that all of the cars advertised are being sold by private owners. Don't be put off, drive the car.
