On another forum there is talk of the new C6 ZO6(or whatever they call it) having a ZR1 style widened body.

Now that will be good.

and from the ZR1 net forum:

1) Seats are race inspired with 5 point seatbelt slots.
2) 21' rims on Front and 22' rims in Rear.
3) Michelin tires - no more Goodyear's
4) Car rear bumper is Convex verse Concave
5) Car was tested at the Nuremberg (Not sure of the spelling) Track in Germany - Car exceeded 225 mph. This will be the fastest production car in the world as stated by an engineer that he spoke to.

6) 6.3 liter
7) Z06 Tiger Shark will have at least 550 hp but will have the potential to have excess of over 800 with little modification, no need to go into the internals to produce the additional hp.
8) Price - $68,500
9) Production Numbers 1000 the first year and is projected to increase by 500 based on sales for the next 3 years. First year will be the least made.
10) Speculated but not confirmed a 3 year run.
11) Z06 Tiger shark is CAM CAR design inspired i.e. Wheel wells flared, front and rear.

If that's true... I'll re-mortgage...

I can't believe that for 1 second! If it's true, it'd be awesome, and could make me re-consider my staying away from the C6, but 800 BHP with minor mods? I doubt it. 225mph on Nurburgring?? Very doubtful.

A Corvette that will be faster than a McLaren F1 AND is a production car, AND costs less than £100,000??

Naaaaaah!

I agree - all sounds too good to be true!

But if it is, well our battle of Corvette vs. everything else will be well and truly WON!!!

Well, it all sounds very nice in the meantime regardless, even if it's all twaddle...

my guess is another GM "evolved" pushrod engine with new intake and heads, 4XX horsepower (around 500 very optimistic), big distinctive wheels, poor brakes.
Of course no limited production numbers (they MUST sell as cookies, just like the current ZO6)
and of course, flares and decals... Oh yes, and special "performance" paint colors... :-)

Sorry to dampen enthusiasm, but the C6 Z06 will be a 500BHP (possibly) car.
The "Blue Devil" which is a possible "super Z06" which might be produced would more fit the bill of this car.

A quote from Autothing.com

While chief engineer Dave Hill has publicly announced the Z06 version of the next-gen Vette due in 2005 will have 500 hp, his engine team wasn’t sure until recently that they could actually achieve that impressive figure. Sources now say that it will be a case of “nothing beats cubic inches” with 95 extra horses (compared to today’s 405-hp Z06) coming as a result of boring and stroking the next-gen Chevy small-block V8 to 427 cubic inches—7.0 liters. Not since the late-1960s has that magic number of cubes been under a Corvette’s composite hood (though there were some 454s along the way).
More important, Chevy is clearly investigating an ultra-performance Corvette designed to do battle with—and conquer—the mid-engined GT from rival Ford, as well as many supercars from across the pond. Called Blue Devil (no one knows why it has that name—could it be Chevy hopes to bedevil Ford’s blue oval?), unofficial stats make the name seem appropriate. Reportedly producing 625 hp, Blue Devil’s initial power will come from a supercharged 427 engine—and it will use lightweight carbon fiber for key body parts, reducing weight by several hundred pounds to drop the super C6 to about 2900 pounds.
The price indicated on the internal documents is $100,000 for Blue Devil, if and when it actually makes production in 2006—at the earliest. We wonder whether the Devil’s chances of seeing light are further improved following product czar Bob Lutz’s comments that he’d like to see a Chevy-badged car like the 2002 Cadillac Cien concept.
