Help with a reference
Discussion
I am currently in a job where i work very few shifts a week and its beginning to be a bit of a strain so i got an application for for another job and it asks for a current work reference am i likely to lose my current job if i ask my line manager for a reference? And do they have to give me one if i ask?
References these days are hardly worth the paper they're written on. Despite any questions they might ask your employer is probably only going to commit to confirming your role, how long you worked there and salary - some don't even do that - lest they get their a*s*s sued off.
Firstly I'd ask them to clarify whether they were indeed making a job offer and if so when would the references be taken up. Then take it from there. No offer, no references.
