Putting out feelers for later in the year.

Want a male yellow labrador, preferably pedigree from parents with good scores on eyes and hips etc.
Family reared if possible as i dont want a dog thats aggressive towards other dogs and humans.

Budget is £500 max, willing to travel from central belt for the right dog.

Currently redecorating the room it will go in so would be collecting in a few months if someone has suitable dog.

Can reply in the thread or send me an email.

Hi there, you don't say if you are looking for a mature dog or a pup?
We are also looking to get another lab in the spring since we lost our younger lab in August to Leukemia, so if you are looking for a pup I will give you a heads up when we find a litter. We will be looking for a good natured pup from working stock since, although ours are very much pets, they do work during the shooting season.

Cheers

Alan

So your parents are looking for something young cute and blonde to look after and love?

mmmmmmmm!!!!!

have you considered that they may want rid of you as you are possibly no longer any of the above three?

Remember the old expression ( which I invented recently) '' you can become attached to a dog but not to a boy''

you have been warned!!

xx

We bred from our older dog 6 years ago, she had 9 puppies, all black and they were wonderful to see, sold them all except the only bh and this was the one we lost in August. While the old girl is still fit she is coming up 11 so its not reasonable to expect her to be able to work the 2012-2013 season so the need for a new pup is urgent. However I have recently had a foot op which will be severely limiting over the next 3 months, so the earliest we will be looking is for collection in April/May. You have to bare in mind that a pup wont be leaving its mum intil its 6 or 7 weeks old so you are looking at finding a litter to be born in March so we will be starting to look shortly. I hope that all makes sense.

Cheers

Hi G, that makes sense to me. Injury and an older dog means you need a younger one to help out and replace older one.

Are you going for a black or a yellow? I'm after a yellow one.

Ps, Paul I don't think they are wanting rid of me.

We are going for a golden lab this time if possible, but colour is secondary to temperement and working pedegree.

Alan, if a pet reflects it's owner, shouldn't you be getting a spaniel.............................

because then you'd both be nucking futs!! wink

Although what this theory says about me, God only knows. I'm on Pekingese number 3 in 30 years!

You can adopt 'failed' guide dog puppies for around £200 - fully health checked & normally very well trained already.

You behave, hehe I will be sitting next to you on wednesday night now.

The guide dog puppy is another route, why do they get rejected from the training?

My last pup failed for being a bit spooked by random things like a blowing polythene bag. Not that he's terrified, it just threw his concentration which meant he wasn't suitable to guide someone. They can fail if they are too easily distracted when they see other dogs or very minor things as the criteria is very high. Or sometimes they don't do well wearing the harness and so they don't progress any further.

Generally though you get a toilet trained (they go on command) pup with recall, lead training and socialising done for you. There can be a wait list so it's a good idea to apply early smile

So they are still good dogs then, just not ideal for guide dogs.

What age are they roughly when they get failed from training and sent to homes?
Having one already trained in the basics would be nice but would like it to still be young so i can bond with it at a young age if you know what i mean?

Le Bump.

So, after some emails with Vette, a contact and a few more emails.

I now have a 5 week old yellow labrador puppy to view later this week.
Vette, the guy had dogs for sale thankfully. smile

A family came to the guy today and viewed both the black lab and my red fox coloured one. They chose the black one. Much to my relief.

Have asked for pictures so i can see him but im feeling confident as it's the same breeder as Vette's new puppy.

Shall have to train him to not pee on landrover's but white lambo's are fair game... wink

Not fully set in stone as yet though, still to place deposit but shall once i get a photo.
