For all of you out their has everyone go their splitter on the front under side ? as mine had been ripped off and i decided to make my own with some 2mm aluminium (and a jolly good job may i say} having fitted it i have noticed a slight temprature drop and it has improved high speed stability as anyone else experienced a similar phenonamon ??

I thought it was just the Chim that had the splitter.

Nope, my 97 500 has one. It's quite handy for collecting leaking coolant so you can see the drops more easily...

There is a pic in the bible of the only car I found with the splitter intact. Many cars had them initially, retrofitted or not as the case may be.

Splitters on either the Chimaera or Griffith tend to get ripped off on country lanes when the car bottoms out at high speeds esp. down the bottom of dips.

I used to reguarly take them out on a certain testdrive route South Croxton Road, Leicestershire and a very dramatic noise would erupt from under neath...



first time it scared the life out of me, but after the 20 or so times it was part of ownership!


Anyway many, many TVR's came in as part exchanges or for services with them chucked in the boot with customers saying..

"Do we need this bit it fell off?"

So drivers will always rip them off on bad roads and the screws that fasten them onto the fibre glass just get pulled out of the resin.

Also without the splitter at high speed the bonnet can tend to vibrate and rattle more....as well as not pushing a larger amount of cold air through the right area's of your engine bay.


To be honest with all TVR's slightly differnt and owners all wanting different experiences from their cars it's up to you.

I remember feeling embarrased being in the convoy last year to Tankesley Manor and the Griffith I was in decided to loose half the screws and the poor guy in his Wedge in front pulled over and checked around his car cr*pping himself thinking his car was broken...

I calmly ripped what was left of my splitter off and put it in the boot..like you do..

If anybody wants a look, Wol has an intact splitter, (at the moment) and will be at the Growl.

Their is a picture in my profile of the splitter, as i could not download it onto here !! if any kind person would like to show me how to download a picture in this section in very great detail, I would be graitfull

For the last four and a half years I have had a section of Titanfast type door seal pushed onto the rear edge of the lower mouth aperture on my Griff 4.x instead of the alloy splitter.
This has a slightly bigger rubber section to the griff door seal,this is rigid enough and hangs far enough into the air stream to be of use for rad cooling but is resilient so as not to get pulled off on speed bumps.

Sorry about the delay, I wanted to try “photobucket” for the pictures.

For me and on my Griff the splitter works.

It reduces the speed required for ram air cooling to take effect and it probably dose make the car more stable at higher speeds.




The splitter shown was made up as a best guess from ally sheet to what everybody was talking about as I’ve never seen another one fitted.

I attach it with silicone sealant and fasteners designed for use in hollow doors, these have a rubber cased captive nut, they pull out cleanly if forced.



It does often get bent and ripped off, so I only tend to fit it for the summer months. Having said that I haven’t put it on this year yet, if you do a lot of slow moving town driving over the summer it must be worth a try.
