Here’s an alternative to the OE wipers. If your bonnet is a close fit on the scuttle and the OE wiper arms touch the rear edge of the bonnet, as on mine, this could be a solution for you.

These arms are from a 1996 VW Golf Mk3 and have a lower profile than the OE arms on the part which goes on the spindle. Quite an easy mod, just cut the arm to length and re-fit to the blade with a couple of universal fittings from your local motor factor. The standard nut cover plugs finishes the job off nicely.

Being VW, the quality is excellent and the springs are stronger than the OE ones so the blades should remain in contact with the screen at motorway speeds. Which raises the question, can the geriatric wiper motor drag them across the screen? Best of all? Two arms two blades and postage £9.40. Sorted. Not road tested yet though so I’ll let you know if there are any problems once it’s back on the road.

Or you could just grind a big hollow in the bonnet....




While I was grafting these on (courtesy of Joe's old bonnet ironically) it didn't seem a lot more work.......

Before you paint you might want to check the ID of those pods - one was very tight.

I have, and you're right (think you mentioned it in conversation at some time, maybe when we were at S&D)?

I'm using Ring lamps (not genuine Lucas), the cases are plastic so hoping I can trim them down a gnats
