Really? Everything he said is a load of...Balls.

Tax cuts won't have the desired effect soon enough; they only serve to give the consumer more money to spend, and if the consumer doesn't want to spend the money then it doesn't help. Right now the consumer is not in the least bit interested in spending money, on account of the fact that they might lose their job because of Europe collapsing.

He's just waffling on with the same old rubbish that he has been repeating since he job the job.

Lets assume that if you follow his plans that it does have the desired effect in say 12-18 months, what replaces the lost income meantime ? more borrowing ?

I think he holds completely opposite views to Osborne for the sake of having them to be honest.

When the Coalition took office the first thing they did was to introduce savage cuts, harsh but has to be carried through. What annoyed me was that the Government were completely devoid of plans to introduce some growth, in fact they simply maintained that cuts were the way to get the Country out of the mess. Twenty months later they belatedly realise the huge error of judgement regarding this lack of growth planning. Better late then never but confidence inspiring they are not. Its the usual shambles whatever the tie colour.

I think that, if there are cuts to be made, that is probably the best one to target.

Probably true, but such a cut would not have any real PR value as its only the payroll dept who would notice it. Not a penny more in the pocket of the man in the street to ease the gloom and lift their spirits.

Futile tax changes, like taking VAT off chocolate biscuits would go down better with the man on the Clapham omnibus .

Tax cuts are a good idea, but combined with increased spending when we're already running a deficit is just stupid.

Pretty easy in opposition though. Tax cuts! More money for hospitals and schools! Free beer!

What would take some bks would be to say write off a year's growth, even two, make the genuine "savage" cuts that are needed and really get our house in order, then make the tax cuts and get things back on track.

Growth will come back quicker if the goverment cut red tape and get us free of the EU....not borrowing more on the never never for hair brained spending and vat cuts to suck in more imports of chinese tat and have more mongs on the public payroll ......

Apologies if this sounds cynical but this is a win-win for Balls.

If Osborne doesn't cut taxes its a PR victory for Labour
if Osborne does cut taxes Labour will take the credit whereas the Tories will have to reduce public spending further and thus make themselves even more unpopular.

You'll probably find most of the population hasn't even noticed anything either of them has said.
